The government buys houses and rents them out to people at a discounted rate and the tax payer has to carry this burden.
Why is this so? Governments should not be buying houses!
I'm sorry but we should not have government housing!
Complete waste money!
All government housing should be sold to private sector!
The millions of dollars raised from the sale will build better roads, freeways, hospitals.
Governments should govern NOT buy houses for people to live in!
The job of government is to govern not babysit people!
***** Dear State Governments **** Please SELL ALL GOVERNMENT HOUSES !!! ****

The governments job is to serve the people.
I would rather live in a country where our poor can have a roof over their heads, than live on the street.
Stop paying for prisoners to have a roof over their heads, fans , three meals a day and t.v.
Law abiding downtrodden citizens should at least get what the ferall scum of our society in prisons are given.

I have two nice new Public houses built behind my back fence. Part of the "integrating them into society" project that Julia ran ( thanks Julia ). When they where being built it scared the pants off the neighboring house owners as it is a nice middle class suburb. Some where going to sell up and move. Four years down the track and we have several mature aged men with varying IQ,s ( a couple are not the sharpest tools in the box ) and a woman who had to have emergency housing for her five kids, ( from different partners ), so jumped the waiting list and promptly moved her new de-facto in. We have had a few problems, but nothing too bad.
I firmly believe the three blokes who share one house, just would not cut it in the private rental market. They are just not switched on enough to manage the rent and keep it together. ( they dont seem to have dependence issues, just verging on intellectually disabled or very low IQ ) What are we supposed to do, leave them homeless ? These guys definately need government funded housing.
The other family are just bludging on the system. They buy and sell used cars, know how to get out of bed in the morning and "do stuff" all day. The mum is pretty smart and would have no trouble at all of getting a job. Instead they choose to have lots of kids ( more welfare ) contribute nothing to society and get a brand new house ( much better than mine ) for their trouble.
The system certianly needs an overhaul and much greater scrutiny of who gets the houses. That does not mean we scrap the whole system. Some people just would not make it in the private rental sector.

Who is Julia?
Housing is a state issue. Are we supposed to know who you are referring to by using a first name?

Jealous of their house...... seriously?
I agree with some of what you have to say.....however you seem to be against women raising their children.

Where do I sign up for one of these houses?
Governments should govern NOT buy houses for people to live in!
What should they be buying houses for?, for people to look at?
The job of government is to govern not babysit people!
Is the government buying day care centers and charging the parents discounted rates as well.

During the financial crisis, one of the less well known federal Govt. initiatives was to provide money for public housing to be built quickly ( same as the school halls programme ) I,m not sure wether the federal government oversaw these one off builds or they just provided the money to the states.

I realise I dont post on this forum often and so you have no idea what my views are.
I,m not jealous of a house. I am disapointed that I have to work extra time away from my wife and kids to support low life bludgers who are quite capable of getting a job and supporting themselves.
As for being against woman raising thier kids, you couldnt be more wrong. I have a number of friends who are single mums and juggle a part time job with raising their kids. Its not easy and I have nothing but respect for them. I also have friends who are single mums and rely on government assistance. Again it is very difficult as they dont recieve a fortune.
In the case of the family across the road, the wife probably has excellent employment prospects and is not that all that family orientated. On the other hand her full time, live in, defacto partner is probably less likely to get a job, but is great with the kids. I am just not discriminating based on gender stereotypes. In this case the wife would be more suited to supporting the family and building a career than her partner.
If the bludgers where weeded out of the system it would leave adequate resources for those who genuinly need the support. At the moment there is not enough money and support for genuine people in need because too many others who dont really need help are leeching off of the system.
I am actually very passionate about assisting those with genuine physical and mental health problems, the elderly and single mums who are left to fend for themselves by their partners.
