Public Housing should be STOPPED & SOLD

The government buys houses and rents them out to people at a discounted rate and the tax payer has to carry this burden.

Why is this so?   Governments should not be buying houses!

I'm sorry but we should not have government housing!

Complete waste money!

All government housing should be sold to private sector!

The millions of dollars raised from the sale will build better roads, freeways, hospitals.

Governments should govern NOT buy houses for people to live in!

The job of government is to govern not babysit people!

***** Dear State Governments **** Please SELL ALL GOVERNMENT HOUSES !!! ****

Public Housing should be STOPPED & SOLD

I edited my post later. What year was it bought for public housing and what would be the value of the house then?

Do the state Govt's buy houses in prime real estate areas?

Today, a woman covered in tatts held open the heavy swing Post Office door for me, even though I was a fair way away from it when she was going through it. Smiley Happy  The best of manners to do that, and not something you see that often now.

I don't see what that has to do with it and I won't be giving personal and private information out on here, but thanks for asking though.

We live in a lovely area with water views and next thing, a house is sold to public housing and we are now having to put up with housos of the very worst kind, I thank Julia for that, I hope she gets the scum of the earth moving in next to her or worse.

These cockroaches drink all day, don't work, and music blaring from dawn onwards. Smoke like trains and covered in tatts.

So do these people deserve a beautiful home subsidised by the workers of Australia whilst they live in the disgusting manner they have become accustomed to?

Comments from people who are in the same situation would be welcome.

Tatts - I was referring back to your comment above, which is a gross generalisation.

I didn't ask for any personal info... a year of purchase for a Govt housing house isn't personal/private info nor is a value range for a Govt house purchased a few years ago.

You wouldn't be saying that if they lived next door to you now, would you. Is it possible for you to reply to a post without a personal attack, just asking.

UFO

The function of taxation is to raise revenue from the private sector to finance government spending. This enables the government to meets its set objectives.

The revenue raised is redistributed through income taxes and social security progarms to support people with low incomes, who are retired, have disabilities and/or are sick, unemployed or families with children.

In addition taxes are used to provide merit and  social goods: e.g. providing of public education, public housing, subsidised health care and national defence, to give subsidies to industry (film making, R&D etc) . Taxes can also be used to regulate monopolies.

The following is from wikipedia

Public housing in Australia is usually provided by departments of state and territory governments, with funding provided by both state and federal governments.

There are over 300,000 public housing dwellings in Australia, consisting of low-density housing on master-planned estates located in suburban areas, and also inner-city high-rise apartments in Melbourne and Sydney.

In recent decades, rooming and relief housing for the homeless has been privatised, and in recent years this housing has been sold off to avoid maintenance costs and capitalise on sales in a booming property market. In Melbourne, public housing stocks have been in decline for some time.

Nothing personal in my replies. Asking for more general info, or more info to back up an assertion is not personal.. it is replying to content in posts.

I am interested in what type of areas ( in general, not street names/suburbs) that the State Govts buy public housing in now, as I know they don't just build blocks of them all in the same area/street anymore.

Apart from that as not many States are buying/providing a lot of new public houses now. Selling them off if they are worth big $$ now.

I have lived in 2 countries, many different areas and never lived next to a public housing house. If I did, there is nothing to say the residents would be ferals anyway.

The small villa next door to me is for sale for $580 000+... don't think the state Govt will be buying that anytime soon.Smiley Happy

Thanks for the c&p but we really don't need a lecture or anything else your feel we should read before forming an opinion.

Do you feel it's your duty to do this all the time?  I know your are only trying to be helpful but its rude and annoying. But thanks for your efforts anyway.

Those are my own words in that post, apart from the quote from wiki. I studied taxation at Uni.

The post is addressed to the OP as he/she doesn't seem to be aware of why Govt's provide public housing.

I would rather read a C&P than someones unfounded opinion which they are trying to pass off as facts.

It is very strange to call for public housing to be stopped and sold, if one does undertstand how taxation and governments work.

No one needs thanks for posting posts on forums...

no it isn't. That's the op's opinion and he doesn't need a lecture to have one.
