Putting on Weight

The grandson who has moved back with me has been under great stress lately and has lost a lot of weight.  I am trying to work out what to feed him so he will put some weight back on.

Anyone have any suggestions ??

And get him off the energy drinks if you can.

They are bad news.

That is a huge weight loss for him.

Totally agree.

But at 23 he is substituting those for food.

Seems to be the mindset.

He has been existing on smokes, coffee ad energy drinks and every little food.  I have now got him eating 3 times a day but he is still eating very little meats,  He doesn't anything sweet.

This morning I weiged him and he was only 50.5 kilos he is 182.9 cm and his bmi is 15

Any chance that he is taking anything else that he shouldn't be?

No he has just come through a nasty relationship breakup.  When he is stressed he doesn't eat.

Re: Putting on Weight

theres peobably, more to this than meets the eye

apart from a relationship breakup, consider his living environment

a domineering parent can crush some kids

Re: Putting on Weight

He is a big boy of 23 and I'm sure he is pleased that you have taken him in while he readjusts and reassesses his life.  But he is that, a grown up young man.  It is his decision as to what he eats.

I'd suggest to serve some smaller than usual meals for him and that you sit as a family unit for the meal - don't hover.  Talk about the day or whatever else is of interest .  Not his eating habits.

Ensure he has some chores to do around the place so that he has some responsibility and purpose.

Also grandmoon, I notice a"mothering" neediness.  May I suggest that, if possible, you get yourself a pet to pamper.

Your grandson might like to assist you in the selection.

The desire to keep my grandson live and health stems from the fact that i have already lost one grandson.

Re: Putting on Weight

I sympathize profoundly at the loss of another grandson.

I believe normally,  our body does not willingly let it starve itself.  He is readjusting following a break up and the loss of a peer at some time in the past.  Both stressful situations.  Have the good food available for him.

I wish the best outcome for you both.
