How do you know?? Did someone survey all Poles in Australia or the whole of Poland?

Did they chose a pronunciation that is easier for others to pronounce?

People can choose how they have their surname pronounced. I have a cousin  with a double barrel  surname ( not born with it, current husband plus a surname picked from past generations), with the ponciest of pronunciations.

Anyway, surnames for politicians has no effect on how well they may or may not do their job.

Deflection from the real issues imo.... LNP lost in a BIG way in QLD.

When asked a particularly stupid question - I have been known to go by:

Penelope Pennington-Smythe.

Does that apply to people calling the prim minister "tone" and "rabbit"? 🙂

Abbott is not so prim here.

Annastacia WAS BORN IN AUSTRALIA.

Her father was born overseas but went to school here. The family has been here a long time.

How about making INFORMED comments.

Her father is of Polish ancestry and was born in Germany. Her mother was born in Brisbane.

Ooh that brought on a big print response!

Tony Abbott was born in London of an Aussie mother. Yet his citizenship has been questioned many times here.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I think they chose an easy way for skips to pronounce it.

There are rules to Polish pronunciation.

sz is pronounced zh (hard sh)

cz is pronounced ch

uk is pronounced ek

If you listen to poddy's link, the closest is the 2nd one

Perfectly happy for any Poles to disagree with me.

Re: Queensland Election

I doubt many cared how it was pronounced as evidenced by the bloodbath that savaged the LNP in a staggering turn around

Re: Queensland Election

I am perfectly happy for the new Premier to be called Pal- a- shay. Don't care if some think it is wrong.. not important in the big scheme of things.

Perhaps it is a German version of pronouncing itWoman Wink  Henry Palaszczuk was born in Germany to Polish parents.

Perhaps his Aust born wife wanted a surname that was easier to pronounce?

The ALP achieved one of the biggest swings in Australian political history in Saturday's state election, which saw Premier Campbell Newman and a swag of his MPs lose their seats.

Re: Queensland Election

Icy froth, you answered your own question

Anastacia was born in Australia (Australian citizen)

TA was born in the UK (British citizen)

Stawka not sure that I can pronounce it correctly so will have to go with the way the press are pronouncing her name. I wonder if they will change their pronunciation?
