RT Reunion any old members still around ? say hello

Wow been some years from my last visit, this place is a devastated landscape !  so sterile !

I was thinking of back in the day and the great laughs we had and thought of the old posters.

Lot of water gone under the bridge, all the hatchets would be well buried by now.

Are there any left ? am I all that's left ? anyway hello to any of the old guard, cheers Yibs !

Judging from the private messages I have received over the last six months, there is a small group led  by one particular member who has driven a lot of regular posters away. They where leaving in droves even before the recent changes. Its not clever or fun or board argy bargy, its just plain nasty.

A couple of cool heads sounded the warning trumpets awhile ago, but the culprits would'nt pull their heads in and the results are there for everyone to see in this years roll call..

It wasnt the resident troll contacting me through PM's, it was long standing, well known posting id's that have left due to the deteriating standards on the boards. Where once there was some wit and general argy bargy, now there is just pile on's and blatant nastiness led by one particular poster. Its impossible to have any form of intelligent discussion now as the little group just go straight to pedantry and pile ons. 

I think you will find there is one particular regular poster ( their name keeps coming up ) who has done more damage to the boards in the last twelve months than the recent format changes.

The result is a boring monoculture of ideas shared between maybe a dozen regular posters.

The antidote to any perceived 'monoculture' surely lies in our own hands. All it would take would be for  more posters to start more threads on more diverse subjects

In an ideal setting that would work. Sadly "diverse subjects" can't  be discussed fairly due to  a few things going on. I think that chameleon54 summed it up quite well in his two previous posts.

I'm happy to provide some wit, to the best of my ability. I think I could manage that, but I don't promise to be the wittiest person in the world. For that, I would need to drink two glasses of red, and I don't drink two glasses of red very often. I'm only too cognisant of the fact that after dinner at a restaurant with a friend or friends, I'll be driving home afterwards, and that the police take a very dim view of the wittiest person in the world reinventing the road rules. 

The argy-bargy - no.     Not my style. It's not too much to say I hate argy-bargy. A good debate, even a robust difference of opinion, yes. But pointless and offensive and aggressive verbal exchanges... no. That's not how I want to live my life, either on the boards or off them.

Sadly just the same tired old gang. Only problem is they have become a lot more active in trying to shut down any opinion they dont agree with and have become much more aggressive in the " pile ons and put downs."

Unfortunately it is probably just a reflection of the lowering of general standards and courtesies we see across wider society .

As for who the main offender is........I have been receiving messages of support for probably six months now from a number of other well known posters who have left the boards and while several names keep coming up, the sad, septic nature of one particular posters offerings seems to  dominate  the discussion of why they have left . ....😉

As for why I dont regularly contribute here anymore, its not because of layout changes to the boards, its just that I,ve got better things to do than get bogged down in discussions about pedantic little points, ( designed to deflect from the main topic ) and having to put up with personal attacks and pile ons from said member and her little group of school yard bullies.

Want to know why the boards are dying and diversity of opinion has long ago left the building ? Take a look around past threads. Things wont improve while the problem is still around.
