Radio host Ben Fordham's claims Ms Gillard was being investigated by police

2GB host Ben Fordham told his listeners today he wanted to correct comments made by Ms Gillard during an interview in March that canvassed the AWU case.

Fordham said the police were still taking statements and had asked him to make a formal statement relating to the March 7 interview.

Courier mail today.

Can anyone explain why NSW was offered 5 billion and states like Western Australia  $300 million. Its a big difference.

population. mining royalties. WA took extra this way. this impacted federal revenues (they cut out the middle man)

WA will reap $1.9 billion more in mining royalties over three years after the state government today increased royalty rates for granular-form iron ore after negotiations with BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto.

Premier Colin Barnett said the royalty rate for fines iron ore - grains smaller than 10 millimetres - would increase from 5.625 per cent of sale revenue to 6.5 per cent from July 1, next year and to 7.5 per cent from July 1, 2013.

It is not OK but she has told more blatant lies than anyone such as the carbon tax promise, such as not being involved in a fraud when working for Slater and Gordon. maybe not any more than some other pollies but real big porkers.

The there won't be a carbon tax but we will implement a price on carbon?

Not such a huge lie after all.

How does it compare to these people are throwing their children overboard lie?

I doubt anyone with aspirations to enter politics would be knowingly engaged in illegal behaviour as a solicitor.  For the record I doubt Thomson was the one with his hands in the  union account either. He would have been campaigning at the time and the office manager would be in charge of financial processes and records.

It is strange times when a political party seems to have news corp and the police in their hand doing favours.

Perhaps because NSW has more kids at school.

It's based on a per child amount.

That's like $85 per head of population in WA, vs $450 in NSW. No wonder NSW are getting on board, and WA are opposing it.

Newstart, if you and your partner promised your child when they finished school you would buy them a car,  however prior to your child finishing school your partner lost his job and was unable to find employment.

The promise to your child was now impossible to meet, would you class that promise a lie or an unfortunate and reasonable reason not to put your family into further financial hardship because you made a promise?

The Final Report Of The Gonski Review Of Funding For Schooling

The final report of the Gonski Review was released on Monday 20 February 2012. It noted two significant weaknesses in the current Australian school system. The first is that over the last decade, the performance of Australian students and Australian schools has declined across all sectors. The second is that there is a significant gap between the highest and lowest performing students in Australian schools. This performance gap is far greater in Australian schools than it is in many other OECD countries, particularly those with high-performing schooling systems. The Review noted what is described as an โ€œunacceptable linkโ€ between low levels of achievement and educational disadvantage, particularly among students from low socioeconomic and Indigenous backgrounds.

To address these weaknesses, the cornerstone of the Reviewโ€™s recommendations is the introduction of a new funding model, known as the Schooling Resource Standard (SRS).

This SRS, consisting of a set investment per student amount, plus additional loadings, would represent the total resources required by a school to provide its students with the opportunity to achieve high educational outcomes over a sustained period of time. The loadings would take into account socioeconomic background, disability, English language proficiency, the particular needs of Indigenous students, school size and school location.

The set SRS amount will be determined based on the current level of funding per student at the top performing schools across the country. This will represent a significant increase in overall school funding, which the Review Panel believes is a necessity. Modelling undertaken by the Review Panel suggests that this would mean an increase in funding of $5 billion, or 15 per cent, of current school funding (based on 2009 figures).

The SRS will be periodically reviewed every four years so that it continues to reflect community aspirations and, in between reviews, be indexed using a simple measure that is based on the actual increase in costs in schools already achieving the relevant high educational outcomes over a sustained period of time.

What?

A $$$ amount per child in school, nothing to do with per head of population that I'm aware of.

good question.

If I promised my child a car I would have made sure I planned ahead and budgeted for this well in advance but also not told my child for two reasons, 1 because it would be a surprise and 2 incase something happened like you said.

If I did tell my child I was buying a car and some thing unforeseen happened I would admit I made a mistake however to be real this would have little effect on anyone other than our family.

i see your point but putting it into perspective, we elect these people who claim to be able to run the country, balance the books, spend wisely and make savings, they are responsible and answerable to you and I.

this gov has not achieved this and is now chasing its tail in a desperate bid to stay afloat until September, they are supposedly going to pay their own staffers to stay and not jump ship. If I was a staffer I would be reading the want adds every day.

on another note, I just don't believe anything our PM says anymore, I don't know if the alternative will be any better but it can't be worse and I think only fair he is given a chance, she was and failed.

I promised my son a car under certain circumstances... I lost my job, got very sick, lived on a very limited income but he kept his side of the deal and I worked darn hard to keep my side of the bargain...

He got his car...

A promise is a promise...

That son still talks about the promised laptop that he never received from K Rudd... labor lost a few voters because of that broken promise and they will lose a lot of votes because of the CO2 tax broken promise.
