Because we started discussing this on the Caturday thread.
A friend at work recently gave me a stack of Karin Slaughter books. I was a bit suss about them, because I wasn't sure if I'd like them. I thought they might be "chick lit", but so far I really like this first one I've started on.
I've started with Blindsighted thinking it was her first one, but there seems to be some previous material hinted at in this book. Does anyone know the sequence? Does it matter?
Like in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child? You can pretty much pick up any book and the past history will be revealed in part in all his books.
Love Jack Reacher

In Turtledove's "Guns of the South", Afrikaaners from the present time go back in time to re-equip the Confederacy with AK-47's in an effort to have them win the Civil War, so that slavery will continue.
Ok. I love reading about America's history
Loved Cold Mountain and Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier. While I was on holidays recently I picked up a book about the Donner Party - Snow Mountain Passage by James D Houston.
gotta go be back later.

Ah books...... don't get me started. Icy, I'm a huge fan of Karin Slaughter. She has about 3 series going with the same characters in each.

Blindsighted belongs to the Grant County series.
Each book can stand alone though, she mentions enough of the past to get the picture. Like with Jack Reacher.
I'm very much into thriller/mystery and suspense these days, though they have to be well written, with top writers like Harlan Coben,
Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, among those I love. Donna Leon's books are great, not only the
exotic/corrupt background of Venice but the detective's wife always serves up the most marvellous meals!
Three other books I'd recommend, top literary sellers are:
The Help
The Goldfinch
The Secret Lives of Bees.
There you go, that should keep you going for 50 years, lol.

Thanks Bright
I've read Val McDermid and liked her work.
Another is Kate Atkinson.

I will read just about anything except romance, western or spy type stuff.
Mostly read crime/thriller fiction. Quite partial to true crime too.
Also like supernatural type novels....Dean Koontz, and the odd Stephen King.
Don't mind non fiction history either.
I have on order atm a compilation of American Civil War diaries and letters. Both OH and I will read that one.
I read on average about 3 books a week, mostly during the night when I can't sleep.
