We could at the bottom of the OP add a line like that
"General chat welcome, please feel free to discuss OT here as well"
it would make it impossible to be OT in a thread and the harassment by the mods might recede a bit.
to the mods:
mod·er·ate (md
r-
t)adj.

Crikey , due to your post my opinion of the quality and professionalim of the moderation has gone down .It isn't a comfort knowing that they seem that friendly with some members off the boards.

bad mods!
Without getting myself in trouble here for discussing unmentionable stuff................ Crikey, not always............ and no, not kidding. I don't want mod's for friends, I want them to do the job they are paid to do, not play favourites (or let us think they agree with our posts)......... and issue warnings relevant to the rules.
They seem to do the job just fine and with a lot of fairness too.
Seems to me to be a whole lot less of the shennanigans going on now than there used to be.
They're pretty much here on the spot - they diffuse situations before they get out of control and don't just slap cos someone hit report, they actually read the post and in context.
If we ask questions, either on the boards or through PM, they answer and they listen, and if they can't answer they escalate it to someone who can.
If you're getting slaps, then I posit that you are breaking the rules and deserve them.
These mods are rock stars and are way better than Live World ever were. (even though eBay still thinks Live World are in charge of the moderating).

We can all assume whatever we want................... the pm's are really no indication that anyone is breaking the rules....based on my own experience and the experience of others, the moderation is better overall.......yet still posts are reported for no reason other than malicious reporting and there seems to be no way of changing that.

I think the mods need to be a little more selective with the demands to stay on topic. Some posters go waaay off into left field and sure, those posters could do with a reminder but it's natural to go with the flow in most threads just like in real life.
Based on my experience with the new mods, I think "heavy handed" is the term I'd use.
If you question a poster and expect a reply explaining their post, well, you may find your question is an interpersonal dispute.
If you ask a poster not to send another abusive message....hmm, no, that's not allowed either.
If that poster makes out they're an angel who never sent an abusive message....well, you can't reply to that either.
I will agree that the mods act fairly when given all evidence but I think they step in too soon at times and need to realise that we are adults (haha yeah I know) and can sort most things out ourselves......well, there are some who throw hissy fits and take their bat and ball and go stomping off lol.........we know they'll be back though !
