The fees are stated in the eBay rules and regulations. You should have read them before ambarking on a sale.

I have not sold anything for a while, not because of eBay fees, but because of the high cost of postage.

I list all my things on another site that charges nothing

I think maybe you were disappointed that your roller-skates

only attracted the one bid, and thefore sold lower than you

expected them to.

Always start your auction at the price you would be happy to take.

Ebays fees are not hidden.  It pays to read first.

Surely the profit made on the postage was enough to cover the ebay fees.

It used to be that if you started at say 99cents there was a good chance of getting a high bid but not anymore. People

are canny and cautious with what they buy now and you just have to put the lowest bid you would be happiest

with.  I rarely sell but that's how I do it so if it sells I'm just happy it sells ,  with so much competition now.  Most of my stuff goes to op shops but sometimes it's nice to make a bit for myself.

You reckon $20 has a lot of profit in it if they are sent across the country ?

6 DVD's cost me $11 within Victoria and they weigh less than those skates.

Anyway, if you want a higher price, start the price higher.

Quite often things sell for a higher price for no logical reason - my 6 DVD's of braking Bad were a good example

when you can buy brand new for the same or less.

Fees on $24, oops $25, are not that high.  POstage is the same regardless of distance if you use the smart options.

If you advertised them in newspaper you would have to pay lot more upfront, and if it did not sell, tough luck - last time I did put ad in newspaper it was about $30 for 2 lines, long time ago.  I think that the 10% FVF is more than fair.  You just need to set your price with all the fees in mind.

Do many of you sellers list something at a higher price and "see how it goes" and if it doesn't get a bid, re list it at a lower price ?
