Resetting passwords - the merry-go-round ride

After being locked out i.e., not able to sign in, and trying to jump thru all the hoops re non appearing emails and phone numbers no longer connected it has just become easier to register a new, all be it very similar, posting id.

So this is the new improved lurker ๐Ÿ™‚ . Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚

Are people doubting I'm telling the truth? I also tried to change mine when it first became known about but never got the emails, although I tried several times. I wasn't just sitting around ignoring the problem. I have tried every way I can to sort this out.

I'm not doubting you Lurker.  Quite a few people have said that they aren't receiving the emails either.

That email you got that said

"What I ask of you:
Go to eBay and change your password. If you changed your password on May 21 or later blah blah blah"

Did that go to your original email address or the new one.

Everyone is getting that email now even though they might have already changed it.  It's just a reminder for those that haven't.

I would say at this stage they don't know whether they are Arthur or Martha with all the queries they are getting and it may take a while to get some advice from ebay.

I am not doubting you, Lurker.

I think alot depends who you have your emails with, yahoo took forever  the first time I tried, it eventually showed up. Some have complained that they found the email in their junk mail instead of inbox, well that is not ebays fault it is the fault of what server you use.

Also think, when posters found out about having to change their password, all the servers were over loaded as was ebay.

Well I got my email but I'd already changed passwords because I got locked out first. Now it wants me to change passwords again but hasn't locked me out again yet  ๐Ÿ˜„

Because although I tried several times to reset, the email never came thru to my hotmail address, and the phone number I had registered with years ago no longer exists. Then this morning I discovered that you can't sign in at all until the reset is done so I couldn't do anything. I tried asking customer support (using my buying id, which I had managed to change thankfully) but they couldn't seem to do anything.

Exactly my predicament Lurker, except in reverse. Posting ID wan't a problem, but I still can't access my buying account. The idiots at customers services were as much use as a chocolate fireguard - as per usual - but the choice to change my ID for a buying account isn't really an option. In complete frustration I have emailed the community manager - do you have one here  ? - to see if he can help. However, yesterday (Mon) was a Bank Holiday so I received an email telling me he was out of office, but would respond later. Too early in the morning here (UK) as it's only 7.30 am, but I should receive a response sometime later today.  If he is unable to do anything regarding retrieval, I have asked him to delete the account, as he should be able to at least do that. Any items I want in the future can be bought from Amazon. I would never again use ebay. Anyway, fingers crossed.

Of course the onus on this mess that everyone is having, rests with eBay an no one else.
