I took the wife out tonight to Carlton and was disgusted at the meals we were served. The pizza dough was flavourless and hard, the sauce was out of a can and the cannelloni microwaved semi-cold. Again no flavour. The biggest rubbish we've ever had. We had a few mouthfuls but yuck... We paid and left. I told the waitress she should eat the rest!
On the way home we went to McDonalds drive-thru and got 2 fillet-o-fish meals which was at least 200% better than the pizza restaurant.
I can't believe people are opening up restaurants and serving microwaved rubbish to customers they should be ashamed of themselves. How hard is it to make some pizza and pasta the proper old fashioned way? We will not be fooled again.
There should be a hall of shame for what happened tonight.
Very disappointing! Has this happened to you?

I don't like to go to Carlton because of all the door biatches that hassle you
as you walk along..."Come in here to eat, it's the best, come on. In here"
On and on and they follow you. Put me right off going back there.

Hey miltofran, next time you go to Philip Island, since you said you like Greek food, try Kristo's Charcoal Rotisserie in Cowes. Their lamb souvlaki is to die for. What a shame it is such a long drive from here I would have loved one tonight. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/346/1741659/restaurant/Victoria/Phillip-Island/Kristos-Charcoal-Rotisser...

I know what you mean but that mainly happens in Lygon Street. they employ doormen to harass pedestrians walking by. We don't like that either.

You Tube Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares
They're not Australian Restaurants, a mixture of US and Uk ones, but......

Despite the lower standard of food here today - it's still ten times better than Europe or America.
Just like anywhere else (including Australia) you have to know where to go. In New York City you pay through the nose for good food or your taking your chances. Except pizza...where even bad pizza here is better than good pizza elsewhere. California also has good food, and places in Georgia for great southern cooking.
And if you (or anyone) finds yourself on Long Island I can point you to some great food. Fresh off the farm veggies, fish caught right off the coast, live 10 minutes before ending up on your table.
There's a great place I go to...looks like a dump from the outside, but everything is so fresh! They make it right in front of you and watching the crew work....like a well oiled machine.
The best pizza and bagels is here....the key is the water (mountain water from upstate).

jimmy that Long Island sounds like my kind of food, nothing beats fresh seafood that is cooked same day. I will message you if I ever go over there. I don't know what kind of regulations you have in the U.S. but here any joe can open a shop, you only need a food handling course from the council which anyone can get easily. It's wrong though they need to address this issue. You have to know the good places otherwise you end up with junk.

Good movie?
If you ever get the chance to go to Tassie, go to Bruny Island
(just a short ferry ride). The food down there is the freshest I've
ever come across. The oysters are kept alive until you order them.
Sounds gross to me, but hubby couldn't moan lovingly enough whilst
swallowing them. Everything on Bruny is just the freshest.

We watched an American series called Solved, it is real criminal cases where they catch the criminal and they announce the sentence given. Interesting how they catch them.
Tasmania, we were meant to go there last year but couldn't go because we were sick. Will check out Bruny Island for sure when we go. I love our Phillip Island here for the same reason, everything is fresh and just the best. Thanks for the tip.

Your rules are probably the same as here. If the health department receives a complaint they check it and can shut the place down. No fines for serving terrible food though, lol.
I've been through the guts of all types of restaurants and the worst are chinese restaurants. Seems they all have roaches! I removed a piece of equipment from a wall in a dark hall and something poured out of it onto my shoe, when I shined a light on it....it was hundreds of baby roaches! The walls were packed with them!
There used to be hundreds of German Deli's....they are the best! Tough to find now, most say deli, but are really bodegas (never eat from them!). Don't eat in Brooklyn or the Bronx either. If I know I'm going to working there I pack a lunch....or go hungry.
I recently had some Italian food delivered and the guy who delivered it laughed and asked why I didn't order from the guy right down the block. I told him I know what good food is and asked..."have you ever seen their kitchen?". He did and agreed.
And yeah....NEVER send food back!
