Restaurants should be CHEF trained before opening

I took the wife out tonight to Carlton and was disgusted at the meals we were served. The pizza dough was flavourless and hard, the sauce was out of a can and the cannelloni microwaved semi-cold. Again no flavour. The biggest rubbish we've ever had. We had a few mouthfuls but yuck... We paid and left. I told the waitress she should eat the rest!

On the way home we went to McDonalds drive-thru and got 2 fillet-o-fish meals which was at least 200% better than the pizza restaurant.

I can't believe people are opening up restaurants and serving microwaved rubbish to customers they should be ashamed of themselves. How hard is it to make some pizza and pasta the proper old fashioned way?  We will not be fooled again.

There should be a hall of shame for what happened tonight.

Very disappointing! Has this happened to you?

Really?  Now that is interesting.   We eat there often lately.

Makes me wonder how good it was....

Next time you feel like pizza, try this joint http://www.farmvigano.com.au/

We should have gone there instead of Carlton. Drive down Plenty Rd, go past McDonalds Rd, turn right at the next traffic lights. It is a pizza shop on a farm.

Looks good for lunch.  Fair distance for dinner.

South Morang is not exactly  'just down the road'

Nice to know though.  Thanks

It's only a 5 to 10min drive from Bundoora.

we've all had our bad experiences dining out, and it spoils the night especially when you look fwd to a good meal cooked with fresh ingredients, flavour and good service. I love leaving reviews for pleasant and non pleasant experiences as both a warning to others so their night and expectations are not spoilt and also as a gesture of appreciation for a wonderful meal.

Problem is anyone these days can open up a restuarant or cafe without having a clue how to boil an egg, or having a license that shows they are competent and have a sound knowledge of how to cook. A 15 year old could be running the kitchen for all that we know who is defrosting some packet frozen chicken schnitzels and palming them off as freshly made.

I know now in NSW they have begun to clean up their act some places due to random inspections and fines being placed when the health and safety of a venue is not up to scratch. Every now and then i love to have a peek and see if theres a certain place where i plan to go or have gone in the past that has had a fine or prosecution so im aware of my own health by visiting or purchasing food from these places.

eg an Italian restaurant out here got caught out, after reading this, doubt many people will be dining here again in the near future.

How can I not be - I live in a Melbourne!!!

Despite the lower standard of food here today - it's still ten times better than Europe or America. All except for meat, as the greedy farmers here sell our delicious cows to Indonesia and the Middle East and we eat the poisonous carp from China and Taiwan.

Have you ever tried a pub meal in England or Ireland? Totally disgusting - Scotland is worse. The food in France is almost inedible.

We are so lucky to live in Australia where there are plenty of great ingredients - so long as it is sourced locally.

I love Indian food - there used to be a great restaurant in Kew in the 80's/90's called Rasheems - best Indian vindaloo I've ever had.

I also loved a Turkish restaurant in Victoria St, Abbotsford (or Richmond) - a long time ago, probably the mid 80's. Went every week, delicious food and very cheap.

What price range was your bad meal in ufo?

Would a fully trained experienced chef want to work in a chain pizza and pasta joint?

I haven't been to England or Ireland but I've heard it isn't that good except for the beer. I like Indian food too, can't eat it too often because it can be too spicy. I'm pretty fussy too and I can only recommend one Indian joint. It is called aangan. located at 559 Barkly Street, West Footscray, VIC 3012 http://www.aangan.com.au/contacts/

Don't know of any better Indian places than this one.

I don't like Turkish food that much, the odd kebab is okay but I prefer a charcoal cooked lamb souvlaki anyday over Turkish.

The meals were only $28 all up. We went there long time ago and it was good but tonight totally **bleep**, and Carlton is supposed to be no.1 for pizza.
