Why would she do that to her child?

Do people who name their kids quirky names think they are being clever or are they just really so self absorbed that they haven't thought about the impact that a name like that will have on a kid?

I recently asked the parents of my unborn grandbabies about names and thankfully both lots are thinking reasonably normal traditional names.  My OH volunteers at the local primary school and some of the names he comes across are just ridiculous.

I think martini was right, it's the parents self absorption that does it.  They don't see the baby as anything other than a toy and don't think about when the poor wee mite grows up.

Poor Lara has to do something to stay in the limelight. She has done ba else from what I remember.

We have an 11 year old called "Garage", but we call him "Gary" for short when he's being good.

Then we have the 13 year old we named "Latte" after our favourite coffee.

Neither of them seem to mind though!

I suppose Lara thinks that growing up with a funny name didn't do her any harm.  She must have copped a bit of ribbing at school with a name like Bingle.

What I really don't like is when people name their babies after a motor bike or their favourite alcoholic drink.  I think there are quite a few Jack Daniels around.  They are bogan names.

I know someone who's daughter named her children after where they were conceived.  My friend almost cringes every time she mentions one in particular and actually rarely calls her by name at all.  It's horrible.

Given the trend changes for names regularly, I am sure it is no worse than being called by a nick name.
The circles the move in, it may seem quite normal.
