This is what the media are reporting:

THE Australian entertainer arrested on suspicion of alleged sexual offences has been named in the British press as Rolf Harris.

iza has pointed out I omitted the word suspicion.

I don't see that the media could be sued by Rolf, for defamation for making the above statement, as Bob suggested.

What Margo said.  Also I don't know if this has been mentioned as I haven't read every post, but I think it was the ABC news that was saying its one woman that is making allegations against him, not child abuse related.

Sorry cut off the last line it should read that we know of at this stage.  The details are sketchy but he has not been charged as of yet.

He was bailed and due to appear in court in May. That was made public awhile ago, before they named him.

I don't think that the media reporting is fair to anyone.  

Everybody could find out who an 82 year old Australian entertainer living in the UK was with a quick Google.  That information absolutely negated the "confidentiality" of Harris' identity.  It's set him up for horrendous allegations and suspicions.  

Now, IF he is a child molester ... send him through the courts and give him an appropriate sentence.

IF he molested a woman ... send him through the courts and give him an appropriate sentence.

BUT, FGS, name the crime.  Tell us what is alleged.  Don't leave us (and him) wondering.  It's not fair.  

Millions of people are wondering now ... "did he molest children?" ... 

The police have ... in my opinion ... POTENTIALLY ... set up a man in his 80s, who has been widely respected for decades to public condemnation.  He's been reportedly suicidal about this ...

I think it's well past time that they give the details.

I don't think anything can be gained by giving more details at this stage. He will appear in court again next month, that is not very long to wait.

If they do give details and even if he is found not guilty people will still associate him with those details.

Why will millions of people be wondering - did he molest children? It was made quite clear from the beginning he was not arrested in association with Jimmy Savile. There are 3 parts to Operation Yewtree. Rolf fell into the third part - Others - who had celebrity status at the time.

There is 1 woman who has made allegations against Rolf.

One of the other celebrities arrested, was not charged as the person who made the allegations withdrew them.
