Please post your knowledge, I know nothing. I've mentioned before that my daughter lives in Newman WA and they are spending a fortune on bottled water.
Suggestions?

Even down south the calcium levels are much higher than in the eastern states - we use Brita water filters but for a family of five that would be expensive.
It sounds like some sort of high tech filter fitted to the water sources to their home might be the way to go and professional advice sought for that. If they have small children, perhaps also talk with their medico for recommendations.
They will probably also need CLR to combat the calcium and lime build ups in toilet bowls and calcium crust around the kettle too.

I have a water jug with filter also. May work out quite expensive with a family of 4 or more though (replacing the cartridges depending on how many litres go through it).
Other suggestion at low cost is to boil water from tap to use as drinking water.

I bought one of those water jugs with a replaceable filter, they seem to work.
There are signs on the town that say do not drink the water. Family of 5 so they are looking at installing something I think.

They are putting bottled water in the kettle so it must be bad

Has she spoken to any others living in Newman to establish what they do re water if they have similar problems? That would be a better place to start imo
If not, maybe she should check out a site like this. http://www.essentialkids.com.au/forums/index.php?/topic/1086646-safe-drinking-water-in-paraburdoo/
The calcium levels up there are pretty high and that might be making it unpalatable for them
