Round Table Revisited

And so Lord of the String said unto the peoples, "Go forth anew. Seek a land you can call your own."

The people saw it was good.

So, on the last day the people said their solemn goodbyes and began the long journey to the promised new land.

And so began the new land and its people were joyous!

Welcome, to the Return of the Round Table known as...

"Round Table Revisited" (RTR)

At least talking to myself is always agreeable Smiley LOLSmiley LOLSmiley LOL

Seriously, I know some friends who cannot post here still read and it is mainly for those friends I continue ~~~~~ Stringer waves to those friends~~~~~

The humidity here is hideous but that is my only complaint. Perfect weather for spending at Elizabeth Quay by the water.

I know I said I don't like crowds but we cannot resist heading into Elizabeth Quay tonight for the Night Noodle Market - only four more nights left and we figure Thursday night will be better than the weekend.  Will feel like we are in Newton Circus or the East Coast of Singapore feasting on chilli crab.  Mouth watering thoughts.

Hope you are all well Smiley Happy

Re: Round Table Revisited

Hi Deb

Great result for your boys ..... well done to them!

Very poor result from our Dockers ..... not a good start to our season.

Care factor about sport zero today after reading the news of events in South Africa.  Lithium could not deal with the words I am thinking - as I would imagine many are.

The architects and perpetrators of these actions should be kicked out and forever pilloried - they have done such disservice not only to their game but to all thinking and honest Australians.  Whilst I feel for the game, I feel more for all our athletes about to compete in the Commonwealth Games - imagine the impact of the behaviour of maybe half a dozen 'Richard Shoebottoms' on those who compete honestly.

A pox on those unsportsman-like #######s Smiley Mad

Re: Round Table Revisited

Hi folks (sneaks in the back door and tries to pretend she's been here all the time)  I can't say I'm really surprised about the ball tampering but it did get me thinking.

When my grandchildren were younger I watched several sporting  events in which they participated and observed how  the coaches were always on hand to pull up  anyone who did the wrong hting and impress on them the need for good sportsmanship.  I'm now wondering at what age and at what stage in their training the coaches take them aside and say "look, forget all about that sportsmanship BS. The only thing that really matters is  winning - and making sure when you cheat you don't get caught."

Re: Round Table Revisited

The ethos seems to infect not only sports but also a broader spectrum of society Smiley Sad

Just listened to a topical interview with Ben Quilty!  I had no idea that tax is levied and paid on all literary, art and film prizes Smiley Surprised

He pointed out that winnings of sporting athletes is mostly tax free - having been financed at AIS or other sporting organisations at the expense of the tax payer and not having a HECS debt at the conclusion of their training - unlike many academic qualifications.

His argument was that the same tax status given to our 'sports stars' should also apply to the creative industries.

Interesting and, in my opinion, valid points for consideration.

Re: Round Table Revisited

Soon after we first moved to Bunbury they built a big, new regional theatre/ cinema complex.  A grand opening was planned and the City Fathers (no women on the council in those days) put their heads together to decide who should be asked to do the honours. After much debate they decided the most appropriate celebrity to open a theatre complex would be  ................drum roll ............... Dawn Fazer

Pretty pathetic TGSE Smiley Frustrated

Good afternoon Stringers and other friends - able to post here or not ~~~~~

Easter almost upon us and listening to the traffic reports, the exodus has commenced.  We have rarely ventured away over Easter - the roads are not somewhere we like to be.  Stay safe all those venturing away.

Beautiful autumnal weather here and more predicted over the next few days.  My kin back East are heading to the Sydney Royal and have promised to have a couple of 'cheese on a sticks' for me.  Isn't it funny what one associates with from all those years ago Smiley LOL

Perhaps some of you have never even heard of 'cheese on a stick' - no idea whether it was a national thing or not.

Apple and cinnamon hot cross buns at 10 paces here.  Not being a chocaholic I make up for it in other ways - long stemmed Roman artichokes, dolmades, mortadella, Turkish bread and sun dried tomatoes (my chocolate substitutes).

Just listening to Cameron Bancroft speaking at the WACA Smiley Sad

Re: Round Table Revisited

Serious question!

Who - in life - no matter in what capacity or level of responsibility, has not made a mistake or an error of judgement?

I know I have made many and having just watched Steve Smith's interview and previously that of Cameron Bancroft, who am I to crucify them for their mistakes.  Some compassion for them, particularly at this time of year, would not go astray.

After all, it is only a game and the sun will rise tomorrow.  Lets hope it rises for them and their families too.
