Brilliant.
Whether people support halal certification or not, there are lots of people with lots of concerns so its time to investigate it all.
http://www.3aw.com.au/news/bernardis-inquiry-into-food-certification-schemes-20150514-gh1c32.html
Here are the reasons i am against halal certification and the questions i want answered.
1. Why are the fees paid by businesses for halal certification kept secret? Why do the businesss have to sign non disclosure agreements?
2. Why are there 20+ privately run halal certification companies in Australia, all charging whatever amounts they want, when Indonesia only has 1 Government run halal certifier? If foods need to be halal certified, then let the Government run it and let the money go back into the whole Australian community.
3. For meat to be halal, the animal needs to be slaughtered a certain way, throat slit while animal is conscious by a Muslim. Yes, there are some abattoirs that use a reverse stun but, from what i have researched, there are at least 15 abattoirs in Australia that slaughter animals using no stun. It is barbaric. This video is very graphic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAQJ-FZo1cA
4. Australia is a predominantly Christian country, so why are we being forced to eat meat that has been prayed over to a "god" that we dont even recognise?
5. If halal certification is supposed to help Muslims recognise what they can and cant eat, then why do so many companies that pay for the certification stamp choose not to display it on their products?
6. Why are abattoirs paying a certification fee and then packing all the meat in one truck and delivering it to butchers and supermarkets who then put it all in the one fridge and display it all in the one display fridge. Once pork products are shelved, stored or transported with other meats, the other meats immediately become non halal anyway. So Aussie Muslims cant eat it anyway.
7. We are told halal certification monies goes towards to building of more mosques and Islamic schools. We know that there are quite a few mosques where the hatred of Australia is preached. As for Islamic schools, the same schools where a principal has said that girls are forbidden to run in races because it will cause them to lose their virginity. Do we need schools like that here?
8. In Canada halal certification money was found to be used to fund organisations linked to extremist organisations. I have no doubt that would be happening here as well.
9. Halal is a part of sharia law and we DO NOT want any part of Sharia law in Australia.
So, what would i like to see? Id like halal certification to be a Government run organisation. Id like every business who pays for halal certification to have to display the stamp on their products. I want all Australian abattoirs to stun before killing. That would be a nice start

Azureline a quick google of halal certification and tourism, property, etc etc will provide all the information you're after. It's not exactly a secret.
Wayward, perhaps you need to google.
Certification is to do with certification.

Secret deal to tie up halal market
A NUMBER of the region’s top Muslim leaders signed a secret deal in Mecca last year to tie up more of the $1 trillion halal certification market. The meeting was called by a Saudi-born ultra-orthodox Wahhabi leader in a bid to set up a new umbrella organisation and investment fund to control the booming market, The Australian reported today.
Abdallah Ben Abdel Mohsen al-Turki, “honorary president” of the World Muslim League, brought together a range of figures to conquer and divide the multimillion-dollar market.
Embattled Australian Federation of Islamic Councils president Hafez Kassem,Australia’s “Mr Saudi”, Shafiq Khan, hard line preacher Sheik Omar El-Banna, and Australia’s Grand Mufti Ibrahim Abu Mohammed, were all present and all signed the document.
“The federation shall seek to set up an Islamic investment fund to invest in good-return projects, especially in the area of halal food of all kinds, as well as investing in the establishment of an Islamic abattoir,” states the agreement.
It was reportedly discussed that 70 per cent of the profits from the investment fund would be distributed among the various signatories and 30 per cent would go to the World Muslim League, which is funded by the Saudi regime.
The Grand Mufti signed the agreement representing his own centre, the Australian Islamic Culture Establishment, and not the Australian National Imams Council.
“The intention was that a bank account would be created, a kitty, and these people would be the custodians of the fund,” one man told The Australian.
“They worked out the distribution formula and some of that money would go to the league. Whether that goes to their Australian office (in Melbourne) or back to Saudi Arabia, we do not know.”
We've been assured that here in heathendom once we pay our halal fee the money will go to a good cause. How on earth will we ever know where it goes because Halal de Mecca doesn't have to file an ATO tax return.

It's an emerging area of certification, this article discusses a bit about it for you but basically there are two main areas of halal property. The first being where and how it's built, this includes the obvious things like not being built on a cemetary etc, plus of course not being near a bottle shop or other haram business. The second area relates to how the building was funded, was it Sharia compliant, is it suitable halal for rental income?

There was also a plan to build a halal estate in NSW a couple of years back which received outrage as it was considered divisive, so no doubt it's been put on hold until we're more accepting of that level of discrimination
