Different in Victoria.
You get a Cabcharge card ( might be called something different) that covers 80% and you have to pay the rest.
It also is for $2500 I think
It's 50% with a max of $60 per trip, and a yearly limit of $2180.
The annual limit gets eaten up pretty quickly with weekly shopping trips and assorted hospital/medical appointments, as I found when I was caring for mum.

look and foud this.
The taxi transport subsidy scheme (TTSS) supports NSW residents who are unable to use public transport because of a severe and permanent disability. If you're eligible, you'll receive a book of subsidy dockets to use for up to half the metered fare, to a maximum of $60.00 per trip.
Unfortunately severely arthritic knees and plain old age does not qualify.
I can hardly walk to the letterbox let alone to the end of the street to catch public transport.

Not even winter time yet - but anyhow only so much fridge space in one's home , so supplies should be restocked soon , but some items , like critical baby related items , should positively be rationed as per the showing of medicare card at the checkout.
ie 1 child listed , no need for 10 tins of formula.....
Talk of baby supplies being legally looted is a worry
All under control in my town of residence where it seems that gross hoarders are starting to be considered like looters and attracting attention and menencing glares

I'm certain it's not fifty percent that my girlfriend pays when she uses the card because I remember one trip of twenty one dollars and eighty cents and she had to pay eight dollars something.
She's only received the one and her balance is more than what you stated but it's not my card so I don't know for sure how it works.
Is it different for country people?
There are various exemptions, but I don't know the details, so you're perobably right about your girlfriend's case.

Lyndal my neighbour was the same no major disability but aged and
feeble. I guess it depends on your GP being aware of the criteria and
filling in the forms to enable their patients to qualify.

Freddie, took my girlfriend a couple of attempts to get the card so it's most likely highly dependent on how good your GP is at applying for it
Definitely the case.

YOU obviously dont live an hour or more drive away from WW etc and are NOT dependant on others to drive you 'cause there is NO public transport whatsoever ........ If you did you may have a different attitude ........
