We all know what the effects of passive smoking are and yet in 2013 you can't access any major shopping centre entrance without passing through cigarette smoke.
Today, at a major shopping centre in Melbourne we endured cigarette smoke whilst entering and leaving the complex. A cigarette tray was affixed next to a doorway (supplied by the shopping centre). This was 1 metre away from a doorway and 1 metre away from a pedestrian zebra crossing which leads to the entrance. How ridiculous is this? Young children, pregnant women and elderly use the crossing to enter the complex including my wife and I. Shopping centres are private property and they can ban smoking on their land if they want to but they have not. Why not?
50 metres away there was a childrens playground with smoking permitted on the fenceline. How ridiculous is this?
The sign read "No smoking within 5 metres". Which means smoking is permitted as much you like after 5 metres. Guess what? The fenceline of the playground is after the 5 metres. Silly or what?
Next time you visit your shopping centre please observe these silly ashtrays next to doorways and make yourself heard. I have reported this to centre management and will continue to do so until it is changed. Please do the same.

I just wasted my time reading this whole thread, my conclusion is that all you non smokers need to go and get a life of your own and leave the smokers the small diminishing areas they still have left to them.
Or if you want to do something really constructive start petitions to make the government bann smokes from sale, make them illegal.
Of course that wont happen they make too much in taxes.
While the government is taking $60 a day from me for smoking their legal product I am certainly not going to allow non smokers, to make a fuss about my smoking in a legal designated area, if it bothers you so much go find another shopping mall to shop in, better still order your groceries in, that way you wont have to suffer at all and neither will the poor smokers you continually harrass with nasty comments.
Even more funny is the Clubs, they have had to bann smoking in almost all the club apart from a tiny outdoor area they are allowed to allocate to smokers who wish to smoke, drink and play poker machines.
The amount of non smokers who wish to come out there to play one of about 50 machines, when they have a 1000 to choose from indoors, is incredible, sour grapes do you think, the grass is greener and all that.
Anyway I am glad you are able to make your little lives more exciting by complaining and whining about what is still a legal product.

LOL Margo
I used to smoke out the back of work in a open air car park, the amount of people that walked past me and said you should give that up was really stupid.
Take note it was my works car park and these people were parked illegally
I dont walk up to people and say you are wearing to much perfume or you are drinking to much, or you smell LOL
I dont mind going out side to have a ciggy, in fact I have meet some nice people out there because you have some thing in common you talk to them like a old friend 🙂

Smoking should be banned in all public areas. Shopping centres, schools, churches and any zone open to public. Smoking should only be permitted on private property not open to public.
