Sineater - psst...in here

I just watched Materchef  US Season 5 Episode 1

(Thought I better start a new thread and not hijack the Australian one)

Plus we can add Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares to this one too.

then I got to this line " The dear lady has not let me into the kitchen since..."

and found myself smiling softly and nodding in agreement with your wife.....

and as for wondering what Chef Ramsay wiould say?

ROFL

Well Reno, you worked out early how to avoid evermore, any culinary duties.Smiley LOL

Would the Tang have had a sort of Jaffa effect on the fudge?

There was no FUDGE - he didn't use chocolate LOLOLOL

Basic Choc fudge recipe

  • Melted butter to grease
  • 1 400g can sweetened condensed milk
  • 100g butter, cubed
  • 250g (1 1/4 cups, firmly packed) brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 100g good-quality dark chocolate, finely chopped

Now imagine that with tang instead of chocolate!

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

wait till next week to start F word and we can follow along together LOL - the others too - I'm always up for watching them again

"twinkle" LOL

Anton's voice grates on me - for that alone, can't stand him - like fingernails down a blackboard!

I'm not thinking any of the men have anythinmg much to offer though

last night's episode was the first time I had noticed Rochelle (is she the mousy shy one who wouldn't put up ideas for the group menu?) she sure was a powerhouse during that service - was all over and on top of every station.

she appears to be strong, but I can't picture her as a leader - maybe a sous chef? with a working head in the kitchen too

maybe something will emerge - but she doesn't seem to have any "grunt" and I reckon people would walk over her and she'd let em

might need to watch a few episodes again, I can't pick any leaders as yet, none of them stand out to me, though the girls are definitely stronger than the boys this season

that dude with the red hair and the beard (I think) => reminds me of a gnome anyway - not sure he can even cook, can he? and that other one who can't freakin count to 5? I mean did you see the episode before last where he first off grabbed 4 items from the dark room instead of 5, then he forgot to plate up half his chicken, then TWICE in service he miscounted - once on a ten top and then on a 12 top - and he did it AGAIN on something else?

I'm like huh? It's counting forward - PLUS ONES, not even really math - how does he survive if he can't plate a 12 top?

yeah, of all of them Melanie stands out to me - she seems strong in skills, and is not afraid to be heard - but I'm not sure what to make of her yet - a show pony or a work horse?

and who's the one always whinging about her team mates "throwing her undere the bus"? she seems like a nice girl, but I don't recognize a leader - don't think she's tough enough iykwim - too sensitive? and Rochelle - she's always crying and breakin down too - that'd have me nervous even though she seems to snap back

NOPe - would never got away with names such as you describe - closest was one place, the charcuterie chef was called Butch and we referred to Garde Manger as cold lader

When I made CdC of Banquets at first it was all a bit overwhelming - trying to keep tabs on several functions at once - running between dif kitchens etc - so i took to carrying all the function lists on a clip board - sort of like a mobile checklist - that earned me the title "Chef de ClipBoard"

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

I got a question.

Crab cakes.

I've never cooked one, I don't even recall ever seeing one.

Are they just kind of like a hamburger patty? a flat meatball?

If so, why do so many of the Hells Kitchen contestants seem to have trouble cooking them?

Not just this season, other seasons too

but in this season, they keep burning them, then they are cold in the middle etc - like - what's so hard about cooking a crabcake?

High sugar content?

I presume that the crab meat is already cooked before combining in the cake thing, so??????

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

My "Tang fudge," came out looking like a strange sticky amorphous blob of orange gunk with bubbles in it, with an odor somewhat like you'd expect if your old Ford truck had thrown a piston rod just after you ran over a goat. Other than that, it wasn't so bad. I'd send the recipe to Chef Ramsey, but I really don't want him to have a stroke....or become violent, or anything....

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

lol@bob! at the time you did that,i was 8,and in love with tang,i'd have eaten it!

redbeard is jason,he's a returnee from season...9,i think? he had to leave due to medical stuff. couldn't cook then, can't cook now.

as for crabcakes..well,have you ever made salmon patties? you mix the crabmeat(yes,it's precooked),bread crumbs seasonings and mayo, form it into patties and saute them. it's VERY easy to burn the exterior, and if you cook them too fast, the center is cold.

and if you get the crust right, you can still have the problem of the crab turning to mush from overcooking. very delicate dish, and very frustrating!

yes, rochelle is the mouse, she got in trouble on the red team for saying she wants a house, hubby and family during a discussion where andee was telling them about having none of that because her life is her job.she IS a wuss, though.i think she'd be a great cook at someplace that doesn't serve dinner, she could still have all that and be a cook.

gabriel is arrogant on top of devious, and not very talented,i think he's next to go. i felt bad for richard, but honestly,he's too old for  that kind of hyperactive atmosphere. i know i am,at 52,and a hundred pounds lighter than he is.

the whinger( i LOVE that word!), i think you mean kashia, the taller black girl? i like her alot, but she does get upset and distracted too easily.

now, next post i'll post the list for masterchef, striking out the eliminations from episodes one and two.
