I just watched Materchef US Season 5 Episode 1
(Thought I better start a new thread and not hijack the Australian one)
Plus we can add Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares to this one too.

lol, sorry! i figured you were still busy with the launch!
so.....i felt so bad for tyler!! there's a raging debate elsewhere as to whether he actually cheated,or just made a mistake when he took blueberry tattoo girl's panna cotta. i'm leaning towars mistakes,as he was moving so fast.
i was rather surprised they didn't turn one of HIS out and try it,even though he was going home.
i'm hoping he can come back and try again next season.
i had no idea panna cotta was that tough,i've never made it. actually,i don't think i've ever eaten it,lol!
as sad as i was for tyler,i was glad willie didn't go home,he screwed up royally with the presearing! but his roll was goodlooking at least, considering he's never done it before.
loved seeing luca, and alexander too!! luca's looking pretty dapper now! can't wait to get his book!
now,on to hell's kitchen. kashia DID deserve to go home, yes, but imho, scott should have too. disrespecting gordon like that was a bad move. he may be next to go,if he keeps getting flustered like that.
and although i'm not fond of blondie, kashia DID throw her under the bus and lie to chef, also not smart.
scott and redbeard were a hoot, drunker than lords after their winning lunch, lol! it was obvious redbeard was SERIOUSLY hung over,he must have knocked over at least 10 things! and i cracked up when he told scott that chef andie scares him! she should!
i wish i could have gotten a better look at rochelle's chicken blt,i like the idea alot. i may try my own tomorrow, with leftovers from today's megagrilling adventure.
i really thought redbeard screwed the pooch when his grill flared up,was quite surprised his pork belly didn't die on him!
next week should be interesting!

Well yes, but - Friday - time for other stuff - Last week, then Mon to Wed were the big days, the rest is a conversation for elsewhere LOL

I'm leaning towards mistake cos he took one that didn't work, if he had known that wasn't his, why wouldn't he have gone and got one of his and seem if it was any better?

Me too. Though I presume it would be something like a bavaroise, and I know how long it took to perfect even a chocolate one and alter the standard recipe to suit the ingredients. Took weeks to work out 45g gelatine per kilo of mix, reliant on the use of double cream and S Couveture. Change one of those ingredients and I had to adjust the gelatine. and that was just for chocolate. Then ione time, on the second conch, I tempered the couveture to 40 instead of 37 - screwed the entire batch - but had no idea till I was finished and went back over what I had done - so had to melt it down and rework it...
as sad as i was for tyler,i was glad willie didn't go home,he screwed up royally with the presearing! but his roll was goodlooking at least, considering he's never done it before.
Well, Considering Luca had shown them how to do it, it was a bit of a rookie mistake..
loved seeing luca, and alexander too!! luca's looking pretty dapper now! can't wait to get his book!
Luca is a bit of a sweetheart, eh? Alexander is just a prodigy - he will be an immense force, the feel and skills that are just inherrant within him - practise doesn't make that - ever - but it does develop and perfect it.
now,on to hell's kitchen. kashia DID deserve to go home, yes, but imho, scott should have too.
Yes to Kashia - she is not ready to lead a brigade. Scott? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Hush you!! LOLOL
disrespecting gordon like that was a bad move. he may be next to go,if he keeps getting flustered like that.
mmm, yes, the backchat was wrong, BUT, i didn't see it as disrespect, i saw it as utter confusion - what he said, fine in the office - just not there on the floor and especially in the middle of freakin service!
and although i'm not fond of blondie, kashia DID throw her under the bus and lie to chef, also not smart.
Yep, that she did. Though do you think she meant to? Is it possible that she misheard Bl;ondie or misinterpreted her intentions? I don't like Kashia, but I never thought of her as a liar to save her own skin iykwim?
scott and redbeard were a hoot, drunker than lords after their winning lunch, lol! it was obvious redbeard was SERIOUSLY hung over,
YEPv - and right there and then, he should have been sent home. Coming into the kitchen hung over? Shows his bad choices from the day before, shows he didn't consider that he had to work "tomorrow" - to me that's an untrustwiorthy trait to have in someone who is leading a brigade, I mean, if he can't focus when there is a muillion dollars at stake, then what choices will he make when it is day to day operations? I mean, is a million dollars not worth doing your best to bring your A game? He values his alcohol more than that?
he must have knocked over at least 10 things! and i cracked up when he told scott that chef andie scares him! she should!
i wish i could have gotten a better look at rochelle's chicken blt,i like the idea alot. i may try my own tomorrow, with leftovers from today's megagrilling adventure.

I want the gnome to go home LOL

i agree on redbeard going home then, scott HAD to be just as hhungover, and he was there and functioning reasonably well!
now,i know you have a thing for scott, but i honestly don't think he could run that kind of high powered kitchen as a WORKING chef.
i know he's a head chef, but i have to wonder how much he ACTUALLY does. i worked for a chef like that a few years ago,and while i was in florida,he lost us a huge account because he wasn't used to working as well as leading, you know?
he didn't know how to properly delegate jobs, supervise them and still cook.partly my fault,i spoiled him,in a way. mostly because i didn't like his cooking and MY life was easier if i let him go and do the froufrou gigs.lol!
honestly, after watching a second time,i heard kashia tell blondie no,she didn't need help taking stuff to the pass, then she told gordon MEL said no,not cool!
and YES! go home,gnome!!!!:D
on 05-07-2014 03:36 PM
but who else is there?
Rochelle and (i can't remember the other girl's name - can I call her shorty? LOL - Keisha's friend)
Shorty is a bit of a dark horse, she may well rise to the top I'm thinking.
Rochelle can cook, but doesn't cope with pressure
i reckon they keep the gnome around for a bit of controversy - for the TV ratings, but I don't believe that GR would put him in charge of one of his restaurants, even if he is capable, simply because of all his outbursts and demeaning ciomments about people and women in particular. Down the track, it is an area for potential trouble and bad p[ublicity for an establishment - they can't risk that.
Scott will make an great frontman - he is well spoken and generally respectful and polite to his colleagues, and as Ramsay rep[eatedly says, he can cook. I reckon he will make a great executive LOL - afterall, they seem to mainly do office work and expidite the pass LOL. Scott knows how to delegate, the problem there is that he has no particular authority to enforce it, however if he has the title - then... he has an ability to be able to float intop any section, which in itself is a strong factor for a head chef - they may not be as perfect as a specialist, but they can do enough to nurse a section through service if needed and understands what it is that is involved.
LOLOL - I was going softly on Kaskhia cos I knew she was a favourite of yours and didn't want to rub her demise in too badly *blush* I saw her as always shifting blame and not owning responsibility for her shortfallings - you can't learn if you don't accept where you aren't good iykwim - that episode, to me iot was a blatant bus throw and a coward act, but then, when the pressure is on, maybe she didn't register what Blondie was saying iykwim - she was more than likely aware that she was in the weeds but felt that Bl;onduie was trying to huighlight that and expose her weakness, so was trying to keep her out of it.
dunno - but she is gone.
Scott for the win!
RUNS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

SHORTY for the win!!!! lolol!! i really do like her, she's talented as a cook, and as a leader, imho.
and scott IS an exec chef,i think,so at least he's got a highpower job to go back to!!!
i still think redbeard has only been on this long because it's his second shot at it,because of the medical problems the first time he was on. and yup,the controversy, for sure.
rochelle is a BRILLIANT cook, but i don't think she's got the necessary set of brassies to do the job. blondie does, but she isn't good at quick repair.
on 05-07-2014 04:06 PM
Blondie is young, she will get stronger (though isn't it her who has the pallatte like a cow's backside?) I believe she has a lot of potential
JOY! That's shorty's name LOL - maybe? I have just never really taken notice of her, to me she has never stood out, never emerged as a leader. I'll pay more attention now though
Scott won me over when he spent the money from his spending spree on his wife - yeah mushy, but it shows he does think of others, and that's an incredible asset for a leader - to put your team and thiose around you ahead of your own wants iykwim.
HK is apparently pure hell and highly stressful, so a lot think they deserve the prizes etc - but Scott was able to recognize that there was more than he deserving of recognition, other people who made what he was doing, possible. (Remember his little explanation abiout why he didn't spend the money on himself and buy a suit or a drill or a pair of shoes or whatever?)
on 06-07-2014 04:42 AM
yup, blondie didn't get a single palate test right, but then, neither did redbeard, lol! i think she could go far, yes, but she has too much to learn before she can handle a ramsay kitchen. part of what i see in joy,IS her quiet way of leading. i like bosses like that.
scott is very sweet, yes, and i admire him for thinking of the woman who is helping him achieve his goals. he just gets flustered too easily, for one,and he sometimes gets in the way,not good.
with rochelle,i'll tell you,i'd love to see her come here and open a small restaurant! she could still fulfill her 'picket fence' dream, AND be a brilliant and popular owner/chef. i'd work for her in a heartbeat!
