I just watched Materchef US Season 5 Episode 1
(Thought I better start a new thread and not hijack the Australian one)
Plus we can add Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares to this one too.

Hi icyfroth! I shall TREASURE that coveted five face award for the rest of my life - which should be about five minutes here - my wife saw me heading for our coffee machine. That was a narrow escape. THANK you for that neat award! I may even make a printout of it and put it on my desk. I'll probably spill coffee on it...
Hi *crikey*mate* - THANK YOU as well - I love humor, and you folks are great! WHY did I confess? Well, one, I was really mentally messed up (exhausted) and two, the joke was too good - I just couldn't stop myself. It was like a drunk bragging about his car wreck... When I told them what I had done, everybody laughed - there were about 20 people around then - the place came apart!!

okay, just got done watching it a second time. first let me say this.
old dude,PLEASE don't open a restaurant if you win!! you'll close inside a month!! you have NO skill in running a kitchen or a team ,you didn't even know your own menu, you ran around like a headless chicken, and you gave in to mutiny!!!
you're VERY lucky your steak was properly cooked,or you'd be gone!
frankly,i thought the whole mutiny thing was very uncool, but i understand that they all wanted to have their team win. still,it made them all look bad,and francis b especially, since he didn't solve the problems. and he shouldn't have allowed those on the balcony to help him either, nor should they have offered. i know they despise leslie, but on my other board they felt it was cheating, and i see their point.
i was really proud that willie bucked the pack and DID support leslie with a cheer,he's such a nice young man! i just wish someone had supported jordan like that too. he's a truly impressive young man,and i think he'll go far in food service. losing 100 pounds at age 14 is awe inspiring, and i hope he runs with that and helps/inspires others to do the same.
now,you know i don't like leslie, and after his snarky remarks to ahran, then the nasty remarks(because i CAN!) when gordon asked who should be in the elimination,i like him a whole lot less. he definitely isn't considering the fact that being a likable person would sell a whole lot more books,if he won. which he won't.
yes,ahran was mouthy,but she's a kid. he's an adult,he shouldn't have been nasty first,and he should understand that HE didn't earn HER respect,or anyone else's. respect is a 2 way street,you know?
i loved the bride and groom, and joe cracked me up when he was remarking on them disagreeing on every dish, lol!
and i can't WAIT to see luca and alexander next week!

It's funny, eh?
I saw it a bit different. I thought right from the beginning of the episode Ahrahn was an insolent little upstart. She was so rude about Old dude Mispronouncing her name and her general attitude was narky - she'd be slapped silly if she carried on like that anywhere else, wouldn't she?
I saw ahrah as being nasty first, right from the before she was even chosen for his team
Maybe I'm a bit old school there, but you don't have to like the person, but you need to respect their position. Hard to explain. No one was asking her to date him, just become part a team with a unified goal.
I guess, to have so many against him thoiugh, there must be someth8ing in him I haven't seen. To me he seems like a well mannered older man, and I was impressed by his humility when he was replaced as leader of the group. He didn't spit the dummy, he took it on the chin, acknowledged his short comings and made way for the sake of the team. So he's a lousy leader? The competition isn't Hell's Kitchen where they are looking for a leader to run a Brigade, they're looking for a housewife/husband to write a few cookbooks.
.....................
Group Challenge
I liked both scallop dishes, I would have been challenged to pick a winner there, though I guess it would come down to execution. I may have leaned towards the one with advocado, simply cos I like the combination of advocado and scallops.
I didn't like either fish dish, but the one with tomatoes was my least favourite, though I dislike the pink puree, can't remember who used it though
As it was a team challenge, it was right that blue team won. They worked much better as a team.
.....................
The steak Challenge.
I'm a bit perplexed that they all had soggy frittes, I mean, c'mon hey, that's a pretty basic thing and there were really only 2 components on that plate to nail.
Old dude, he basted that baby the whole way through cooking - his would have had the superior flavour, and at the end of the day, he delivered the correct temperature - his steak looked good. He deserved to win that. The others may feel he ios an **bleep**hole, but he can cook.
The liettle fella, Joran? He did the worst, he didn't render the fat on his steak
The guy getting help from the peanut gallery - he should have been disqualified, or at least the PG told to can it. That would have been enough to psyche the other two out. Maybe that's ok for the old dude, but the little fella is only 19, it would have undermined any confidence he did have. And what the heck was with the coboy using the blow torch? Seriously? *shiver*

my point about leadership related to him saying he wanted to open a restaurant with the money,if he won. and yes, ahran didn't want to be on his team, and he knew that,so why did he pick her,you know?

He's a masochist?

It's a bit different though when you own the place as opposed to leading a whole bunch of competitors all trying to one up you, don't you think?
