I just watched Materchef  US Season 5 Episode 1

(Thought I better start a new thread and not hijack the Australian one)

Plus we can add Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares to this one too.

Hell's Kitchen Season 12 US - should have episode 13 uploaded tonight

Kitchen Nightmares was up to season 7 episode 9, but they seem to have given it the 68 "not for viewing on your country"

Did you see Boiling Point? Behind Bars?

and we got Hotel Hell season 1, but only episodes 4 and 5

and Hotel GB season 1

Junior Masterchef - full season 1

I think I may have to order Pay TV - think all this shows on a TV chanel called Fox - I think that's Pay TV - but I don't even have free TV LOL -

I tried watching Hells Kitchen UK, but that was pretty painful, couldnt make it through the first few episodes

laughing at piegirl and prawn boy - harsh! LOLOL

rosti girl was saying in her spiel how she came from potato country (Idaho?) and was always cooking potatoes and was going to make her homwetown proud.....

poor prawn boy - I actually said similar once - but juast to a customer.. I was on Sunday Brunch Buffet in the Fine Dine restaurant and this customer was really grilling me, asking me where all the cheeses came from, then she started on the seafood - went through crabs, bugs, lobbiies, oysters, muscles etc - then she got to prawns and whilst I knew what type they were, had NFI where they had come from, so exasperated I just said "oh, they just swim around in the ocean everywhere, they don't come from anywhere special". She reported me for being a smart A! She freakin interrogated me for 20 odd minutes FGS!

I got to watch Chef Ramsay live for a week. He came to our Hotel and conducted cookery courses for the public $750 per person and then hosted a dinner each evening.

I was Banquet Sous Chef at the time and they used my kitchen, so I got a front row seat (back of house LOL) all the stock, ordering and prep went through my kitchen, so I got to see it all and Chef organized for me to participate in a few of the paid cooking classes which was pretty cool.

Pig trough woman - the thing that really got me was her attitude "thought you had people to clean thaT UP" i was like???? you dirty pig! Can't believe they let her get away with that kind of attitude - we would have been whipped for saying something like that, let alone working like that. It wasn't even stuff she dropped, she was intentionally swiping it off the bench onto the floor as if it was the trash can... "Oh, it'll be ok, some DP will come along and sweep up for me"!!!!

Well that episode 1 was uploaded Thursday Night June 5 here, and you're due episode 3 on Monday June 9 so you're about a week and a half in front.

I wonder why they changed the format, did they say? I liked seeing some of the screw ups in the old format - beaver boy and hanibal boy wer4e a bit freaky...

and that blonde girl who was a ship stewardess and they got her to fillet and portion a whole fish on the spot to prove she was "the real deal"  - reckon I would have been so nervous.

The thing that really puzzles me up about them though is the girls come in in their frilly dresses and high heels to work in a kitchen - surely they change their shoes? Hair all over their faces and fashion show earrings and manicured nails - it's like - ????

................

oh remember HK season 6 - Danny I think the winner, but he worked 1/2 the show with a broken arm? The boy was a powerhouse - I have never seen anyone endure anything like that, I don't think.

i was SO thrilled when danny won! he's an incredible cook, and having worked with a broken thumb and screwing up constantly,he was awe inspiring! oh,hey, did you know that jnelle from last season lost the job because she couldn't pass a drug screen? i mean, geez, get a clue, girl, olose a quarter mil for smoking, how stupid ARE you????

i learned to baldface LIE to clients while i was running the catering kitchen at the convention center. now,i'm a wizard with cold water seafood, but i know jack squat about warm water seafood,or freshwater fish, for that matter. so i started making up stories based on the name of whatever i had to cook, and kept them on my work computer. i was shocked at how many people believed them, they were total fairy tales, lol! my favorite is still the story about red snapper actually being related to deep sea snapping turtles, and ONLY found off the coast of louisiana, because they have red beach sand that the fish eat, like chickens eat dirt,to help them digest. and they have HUGE teeth, like pirahnas, because they're related to turtles. the british lady setting up the function believed every word, and i don't think i've ever seen my boss laugh so hard as he did that day.:)

the coolest chef i've ever had the honor to work with was a cherokee named running bear,he was the tour chef for ZZ top. they had bought him a new kitchen bus to be picked up here and it wasn't ready,so he cooked in my kitchen for 3 days. i learned so much from him,and taught him a few things too,we had a blast! he calls me whenever they're in town, and we go and eat bbq and drink beer,i love that man!

okay,we're pretty much watching hell's kitchen episodes on the same day,13 was last night, cool!

as for nightmares, you're way ahead of us,i think,we're on season 6,that's the one with the opening episode where they go back to amy's. have you seen that,or are the seasons just numbered differently?

haven't seen any  of the other 3, they must be on bbc instead of fox? you definitely need fox!

masterchef junior has actually been renewed for the second AND third seasons, with season 2 in the fall,no date yet.

as for the dressing up,i don't get that either,in particular the hair and shoes! they wouldn't even make it through the door on MY kitchen, that's for sure! note that whitney and christine DIDN'T do that!  when i had to dress up to act as a liason,i didn't step foot in the kitchen, ever. my best friend and cohort michael ran the show on those days, and most of the staff didn't recognize me,lol!

pigtroughgirl needs a lesson in being the kitchen slug, just so she knows what it's like. and btw,i am notorious for nicknaming people on my shows,as i'm dismal with names.

i do have a list of the full 30,with the ones eliminated in the first episode lined out,i could post it if you'd like that. i do that to keep track for another site i post on,so everybody knows at a glance if their faves/despised are still there for next episode. sometimes you just have to miss an episode, you know?

so far my faves are dan wu,cortney the stripper, big willie and venisonman. despised are leslie(the malibu dad),molecularman, corinne of the dreadlocks and piegirl.

but that will change,it always does, lol!

Is Kitchen Nightmares the one where Ramsey goes to failing restaurants to kick their butts into line?

yep, think I need a list - others might like it too.

In Hells Kitchen, what do you make of the young blonde girl? (She just went over to the blue team last night - that one) in episode 13.

Kitchen Nightmares - yep the season after the ione that aired Amy's baking Company. Episode one of the current season was going back there. I think episode 9 was a restaurant called bella luna? I just see what's on You Tube, but they have taken the entire season down now.

Not sure about Pay TV - kids are used to no TV now - I like it like that during school time LOL. We used to have a rule, no electronics/TV during term time unless it was needed for school work, so we all just got out of the habit over the years and haven't had any TV for maybe 5 years? Only had unlimited internet for a bit over a year (not our fault - could only get wireless plan at 15GB a month, so with 4 studying, it was very precious - so def no You tube or anything extranneous! I used to use a dongle for skype video, just so I didn't drain our monthly quota, but now we have ADSL2 unlimited, so all is good)

I bet you learned heaps off "Running Bear" - I'm guessing Native Indian? wanna share? Closest I got to that was a Fijian Indian (no celeb status) but boy he could cook, learned heaps from him - Curry King he was.

Check You Tube for Boiling Point (Ramsay when he left Aubergine and opened his first restaurant - real kitchen footage and his pursuit of Michelin) and Behind Bars, is where he went in to teach prisoners to cook as work whilst incarcerated scheme - is pretty cool. The others should be on you tube too.

Can't wait for MC junior - the skill level of those kids is amazing - I mean they had what, a 10 year old making roulades etc? blew me away. and little Sarah, was only 9 - and for them to make layer cakes and have such a wide skill base at such a young age - *wow* - I mean sure, maybe two or three things? but that many, and full on complete dishes with all components across a variety of spectrums. It actually made me feel very inadequate, ya know?

Dressing up: I was asked early on: "Are you a chef or a girl?" That mantra was pretty much drummed into me for dress, attitude, disposition - across the board.

Kitchen Slug LOL - do you get away with that? I got a major keelhauling once for saying "Dish Pig" (it just slipped out, heard it off someone else - and chef ripped right into me when he heard it - I got KP duty for a month for that one! After Service! so not even instead of!)

Yes. There are UK and US versions.

You Tube Amy's Bakehouse Company  - the only restaurant he has never been able to help so far.

Masterchef Junior US - worth watching to see Ramsay doesn't always shout and swear, he is great with the kids.

"Whip it like a man" 2:46 - 4:00 minutes

Little Sarah is a crack up as she cheers on her team mate Gavin (who I think is all of 11, and Sarah is 9 LOL)

.
