"Some single mothers hit by recent welfare cuts to parenting payments have turned to prostitution and strip clubs in order to keep a roof over their family's head."

Would you consider it if things got tough?
Would you have respect for these mums for turning to these jobs?

It's a disgrace that the ALP has made single parents so much worse off ... both now and with the "Welfare to Work" changes in 2006. As power charges increase, rent goes up, jobs remain scarce the ALP goes for the most vulnerable of people, the single parents (mainly women).
I cannot believe how much they have changed, sold out their principles, betrayed the people who tend to vote for them.
It's like Romney's comment about the 47% ... in reverse.

SO solo mother should work.
Where are the jobs coming from.
Who is going to look after the children
Who will look atfer the children in the school holidays.
How many bosses will let you work 9 to 3 and have school holidays off.
Who will pay you when you are sick.

I can understand why some women take to drugs or alcohol to help them do their "job".:-(
Well done Labor!!!
Blame Labor?
Get real!
These changes that affect some single parents have existed for 3 weeks.
It is totally ludicrous to blame these changes for anyone becoming a prostitute.
Who are we going to blame all the previous sex workers career choice on?
This is just another attack on Gillard, for the sake of attacking Gillard. As if the reporter gives a rats about single parents.

Well freaky.....it was Labor that took up to $100 p.w. off single mums wasn't it? correct me if I'm mistaken
on 21-01-2013 05:39 PM
was it ok to give the $100 to some and not others in the same situation?
Damned if they do and if they don't.

pollsters have found very little support for an increase in the dole, unfortunately . i disagree with the changes personally. i find the labor govt is too right wing for my liking.. but still the lesser evil.

What does 'up to' $100.00 actually mean. I am naturally suspicious as I have been to many sales advertising goods at 'up to' 75% off and failed to find a single item marked down that much:^O
Has anyone done a breakdown on how much money your average supporting mum with, say, three children, aged between 8 and 13 and living in Government Housing is really going to lose by going onto Newstart?

$100 a fortnight is only 2.5 hours a week work. Sheesh it's not like they're being asked to do a 70 hour week.

On my rate of pay ($22ph casual) it's 4.5hrs, basically one shift.
Like toon said, its not that much.

I'm more concerned about most hospitals closing entire wards and operating theatres. What is this country coming to? I thought health and education were a priority.
