Re: Smoke free here ~ all a croc?

Lobs well done, I gave up smoking cold turkey years ago and it was not easy.

I was a 2 pack a day when I did it, fell off the wagon twice but on the third attempted I made it I have not smoked since.  Some of the side effects are not nice but worth going through to have clean lungs.

It will take at least 2 years before you really notice the things you mention, things tasting nicer, being able to smell things and feeling better but like others have said you will smell nicer to other people now you don't smell like and ashtray and you will save heaps of money.

When I gave up I bought a money box and every time I would have bought a pack I put the money in my money box.  After a year I could not believe how much money I had in it, I was so chuffed I spent it all on a holiday.

I bet you smell better to others?

I dislike the smell of a smoker! Especially to kiss or hug! Im sure those around you would notice it, especially if they dont smoke!

Goodluck, keep it up..... you are doing your health a favour! X

Re: Smoke free here ~ all a croc?

That's fantastic news Lobs.  Kids don't notice anything so I wouldn't worry to much about that.

I went cold turkey a long time ago and I have never wanted one since.  You are doing the right thing by everyone (except the Aus Govt and paying the tax).

You are setting a good example and the amount of money you are saving must be heaps.  Please keep going.

Re: Smoke free here ~ all a croc?

Congrats & well done. I am now free for 4 years, it was very very hard, so hard in fact that I did buy a pack one day & I smoked 1 but I punished myself so bad with a guilt trip I didn't do it again.

I get that you feel no body has noticed you quit, what with all the do gooders & smoking nazis you'd think they would notice eh, but they don't, so you're on your own buddy so good luck, you will make it.:-x

Lobbs I gave up after I had a heart attack from a clot caused from smoking.  Cause smoking thickens your blood and leads to clots.  I was lucky it wasn't a stroke.

The dizzy spells are probably due to increased oxygen getting to your brain quicker than it used to, your blood will be thinning and your body will get used to it, its good for you.

These are the things I noticed.

the sense of smell thing I noticed pretty quick.. I noticed things like petrol smelling stronger, the garbage bin in the kitchen.  I coudln't smell smokers until just recently and can only notice the smoke smell if they've just had one.  2 yrs on and I can really notice the smell of plants and flowers too.

Sense of taste is still the same I reckon.   Although fruit tastes sweeter... strawberries taste nicer.  And I went off coffee, I still drink it but a jar has lasted me 3 months and there is still a quarter left in it.

Not having lots of phlegm or smokers cough and the croaky voice going is something I really noticed quickly.

Being able to take a deep breath into my lungs further than I used to when I was a smoker.  Not getting exhausted so quickly.

Heres the big one :  The money, I really noticed the money and don't know how I could ever afford to smoke.  And the incovenience of hanging for a smoke because you're not allowed to smoke anywhere anymore.

Every now and then (usually when stressed) I'll think, god I need a smoke, then I remember I don't smoke anymore lol.

Good on you for giving up, you've done the right thing and bet you start noticing stuff soon.

Re: Smoke free here ~ all a croc?

Yep! Way to go Lobs!

I'm a week ahead of you, though I've fallen off the wagon a couple of times.

I can't say I've noticed much difference in my cardiovascular - It's improved a bit but I'm also back at gym so that's probably helped too - but I still cough up a lung everytime I do an ICE session - but I did have a long term problem with sinus infections and they have completely cleared up.

The only taste difference I notice now is I can't stand coffee anymore - and I used to mainline the stuff - reckon I would have sniffed snorted or injected the stuff if I could have - but now can't stand the stuff.

I can smell smokers - but I always could.

The biggest thing for me is I'm saving at least $150 a week - so that's a $150 tax free pay rise I've given myself and my whole family every single week!

And yep - that's another bonus - don't have to scrounge around looking for the designated smoking areas anymore and not hanging out till the end of a lecture till I can have a smoke - plus - I can now sit at coffee shops etc WITH my friends without having to wander off like a Nigel by myself all the time. LOL
