I don't drink tea so I don't have one, but I remember my mum having one shaped like a teapot.

my dad use to have this silver ball thing with holes in it and metal chain

Mum had a teabag squeezer. That was fun to use as a kid

Don't drink tea, but I do use coffee bags, same principle really.

 

I also just piff it in the bin,

tripping down memory lane in my head now ๐Ÿ˜„ We also had a plate, an ugly brown and green winton leaf shape plate that mum would put her tea bags on. It could have held spoons too I guess.

i don't think you can use them for multiple purposes - if you could they would be called multipurpose holders or multipurpose rests.

but thay aren't, so you can't.
