Someone tried to break into my house! :(

Through the roof! 😞

Yesterday while I was at work, the neighbour across the road came over to tell my grandmother (at my house babysitting 13 month old) that there are roof tiles lifted and a big hole that will let in a lot of the rain forecast for the afternoon!?!?

She had a look and it was pretty easy to see. At the front of the house.
Luckily my BIL is a builder and once I'd had the phone calls at work, my sis phoned her hubby to pop over and check it out.

He said that tiles had been pulled off enough to let a person slip through! He replaced the tiles and sealed some cracked ones next to the removed ones.

About 20 mins later we had a quick but heavy downpour of rain so happy that he fixed it.....

But now I'm worried! Why would someone want to come in through the roof? It's pretty open at the front of the house, surely a would-be thief would go around the back where it's less open and break in through a window or back glass door?

I had trouble sleeping last night, and feel very uneasy today 😕

I'm home now til Mon, need to speak to neighbours and go to local Police station to make a report.

Re: Someone tried to break into my house! :(

I agree it's hard work breaking in someone's house through the roof.

It takes a lot of time. And for someone to be able to see the hole, they choose the wrong side of the roof to go in. However if it's at night then that might be a different story.

Re: Someone tried to break into my house! :(

Kylie I'm sorry this has happened. You don't need this kind of carp.

It does sound weird. If it wasn't an animal or the wind blowing off the roof tiles (I had a few tiles blow off and possums got in) then I also suspect it's your ex. A burglar would break in out of sight of the neighbours. If someone wanted to enter via your roof then it would only be because they can't access the house via a window or door or they want to spy on you/be close to you. And that is most likely your ex.

I hope you discover the person who did this and then you can take steps to prevent it from happening again. A restraining order until the person has completed counselling might be the next step but I'm jumping ahead here  ....

there's one thing I don't understand - when you take the tiles off the roof their are battens running between the main roof trusses - you'd have to be pretty small to squeeze in between them - or is your roof different to the type I'm thinking about??

Im not sure about diff roofs?

i will keep trying to load the pics...

for some odd reason the iPad won't co operate!

i can post a pic of my roof from a week ago (my dad asked for me to send him a pic once the lawns guy mowed) zoomed in large full sizes pic, and then the hole pic from BIL.....

Gimme a sec....

Re: Someone tried to break into my house! :(

BIL says they were not loose and couldn't be nature.

I wouldn't discount it being innocent though.

It doesn't take much to loosen tiles. Plane overhead, truck rumbling past, a sudden gust of wind. If you have airconditioning, it could be connected to this - return air grill might be blocked, ducts might be leaking. It could be anything!

And if one tile is loose and moves it could take a few away with it before it comes to a stop. All the others could be as tight as superglue.

It seems odd that someone would do this at the front of your house.

So this was last weekend, the hole was in between windows and a few metres back from the edge.

This is not  the pic I wanted to share as he'd already resealed and relodged the cracked tiles on the sides of the hole and this angle isn't as good. Keeps showing a blank pic with the other shot.?? Grrrr!

i don't know if someone got to the " walking in my roof cavity" stage, but a builder says they didnt blow off, def been hand removed....

It does look like the tiles have been removed by hand Kylie 😞

What room is below? Is the man hole positioned underneath?

If they had blown off or been vibrated out I doubt they'd be stacked?

No ducted air cond. No trains close. Could be a low plane I guess but we rarely see that here (western Sydney), No hurricanes or gale force winds. No earthquakes.

and no one else in the street has any similar damage from nature.

ive thought long n hard about every possibility, I'm baffled that its in front, I can't believe the ex would do this?! But scary to think a stranger / thief.

its very frustrating!
