I often see them in the op shops and think pffft, what a useless item. As if you couldn't use a saucer or whatever you have at hand while you're cooking. Making bolognese tonight I just rested the spoon on the side of the can.

My nana's had a permanent wide guard where your leggy thing is. Her leggy thing levered out from the underside of the handle.

I'll have to tell Hubby, he thinks it's to stop the knife sliding up the fork and cutting your hand, or something like that
That's what I always thought it was for.

LOL - I have seen smaller ones of them! I thought they were schmick presentation bowls to serve an amuse bouche in - you know how sometimes you might see one served in a chinese spoon kinda thing - or for serving some tapas dish -- you know like a dipping sauce in the bowl with something in it skewered by a fork or something to pick it up with... I dunno - I actually had a set on my eBay watch list for a while but couldn't come up with anything I'd like to serve in them LOL - but I thought they were kind of cool and quirky and would have added a bit of wow factor for a dinner party iykwim!
The spoon rest in the pic - I like that, it's different - I like different
As for mine - I'll look for the box to see what it is called - not sure if I still have it though, I uisually only keep the boxes for things with warrantiews or that would be tricky to pack and transport.
might look for them again

schmick...is that like froufrou? silly rich people stuff?
i have used upright spoon rests for things like kabobs, satay, stuff like that,it really does work well!

scmick - ummm --- looks good? I wouldn't have thought frou frou - dunno LOL, now that you're pulling me up on it
yeah, satays an stuff - you got my drift - I keep picturing Chinese dumplings in a broth though - then I draw blanks *blush*
