Why are we fuddy duddies just because we are comfortable with our life choices/ruts?
I spent over 50 years chopping and changing ruts....some were good ruts, some were noit.
Now at the age of 70 I am happy with where I am and have no desire to change anything more. There is just so much chopping and changing you can do when you are housebound with limited mobility. If you have not made peace with your life choices by 70 it is all a bit late.

I looked in the mirror.
Maybe that was the beginning of the end.
Maybe, now, I'm "stuck in a rut" because I don't have to waste all my time running around looking for what was right in front of me, all along.
At least now I have time, and someone I like, to spend it with.

I'm not quite sure what you just said but perhaps what I heard was not what you meant. However, I think you have a couple of cranky pants at ozopenletter that you need to deal with.

Am I a stuck-in-a-rut fuddy duddy because I rail against being told what I "must" do?
It's the people who tell us what we "must" do who are trying to force us down into that rut.
Well stuff you and the rut you rolled down in. 🙂

Then those people must make peace with themselves in order to live happily that way 🙂
are you telling people who have been there there, done it all and got the t shirt that they MUST make peace with themselves?
hahahaha
I'm not talking about people who have 'done it all', I'm talking about people who are 'stuck in a rut'. If someone is stuck in a rut and they decide they can't be bothered to do anything about it, or they think 'well I'm comfortable enough as I am', then I hope that makes them happy 🙂

If a person can't make peace with themselves, then what follows as an alternative?
Perhaps they will live the rest of their lives wondering about all the dreams they didn't fulfill?

Sorry for all the replies to everyone in a row...
No, no, no, you must do what's right for you! This post was aimed at people who feel like their lives need to change, need a turnaround; obviously there are some who are happy with what they're doing, who they are, and where their life is headed. That's absolutely fine, because this post wasn't directed towards those people. I'm glad you've found what makes you happy 🙂
