Stupidity prevails once more at the supermarket.

I went to woolworths this morning. I got ravioli, spaghetti sauce and parmesan cheese. When going through the checkout, I was informed I couldn't have the parmesan cheese because I already had two items in the category (being the ravioli and spaghetti sauce). Seeing as they all go together, where is the logic??

At least everyone is now getting plenty of toilet paper.

Complete lunacy!

I saw where the supermarkets were starting to ration ALL items and not just those that were causing problems with hoarding....but to ration all the items in a category is just stupid.

Perhaps we should all start joking about you not being able to get what you wanted, seeing you thought it was funny that others are short on toilet paper.

Re: Stupidity prevails once more at the supermarket.

I'm not sure how they're all in the one category.

On their website, the ravioli and spaghetti sauce would be in the one category if they came from the refrigerated section, but in different categories under the "pantry" section.

In either case, the parmesan is in the cheese category, so at the most you had 2 items from the one category.

It sounds like an over-officious or under-informed checkout operator (or maybe both).

Was the parmesan the fresh in the fridge section or the one in the container in the pasta section.

Good point - I didn't think of that.

Oh for heavens sake, when did I ever say that? I thought it funny the way people were hoarding toilet paper and fighting over it. So you wish to start another feeding frenzy here? What is wrong with you?

The ravioli came from the chilled section, the can of spaghetti sauce from the shelves, and packet of parmesan cheese from the shelf. The manager was called and the result was "they were only following what they were told by head office" I've sent off a complaint to Woolworths, so will see what they have to say. I tried ringing them, two different numbers, supposed to be "Customer Service" with no recorded option relating to any so called Customer Service.

Re: Stupidity prevails once more at the supermarket.

I've been on the website to try to find a list of categories used in these limits.

There's nothing specific listed, only the exempt categories.

Luckily we've recently moved closer to town, so can go in more frequently.

Also lucky we have another supermarket, although it's only a small IGA.

Re: Stupidity prevails once more at the supermarket.

All general items (canned and packaged) at Woolworths are a limit of two. Toilet paper etc, limited to one. Fresh perishables no limit.

I noticed that soap is in short supply, and it seems that batteries will be next. As very little is made in Australia, I can understand somewhat why some items may be stocked up on. However, it appears that imports even from China are still coming, just slowly.

I am not stocking up on anything, just doing my normal shopping. Luckily, I have a large walk in pantry and a huge laundry cupboard, so I  have always stocked up when specials are on, then by the time I am short, the items are usually on special again. I don't have to buy any more at this stage. I would rather leave things for the people who need it more than me.
