Re: THE BUDGET THREAD

Grumpy.. There was a health professional on TV recently and she said the same. An elderly person may visit the Dr every fortnight. The Dr monitors their blood pressure or diabetes. Being monitored regularly and medicines adjusted accordingly keeps them out of hospital. The aged pensioner may not be able to afford all their medicine now, so they ask the Dr what one is more important for me to take.. The heart one or the diabetes one.
This woman said if these elderly stop going to the Dr regularly, decide themselves not to get a prescription filled because of the cost they are going to end up in hospital.

Re: THE BUDGET THREAD

I believe doctors will have the discretion to waive the fee for chronically ill patients.

Re: THE BUDGET THREAD

Every time I hear 'previous government' it sets my teeth on edge. Stop whining about what went before. It lowers your credibility.

Re: THE BUDGET THREAD

Spot. That medical research will probably be mostly funded by the extra bucks you pay to see a doctor or get a blood test,so the general public will be paying for that.not the feral government. They're also slashing funding for the CSIRIO.Maybe they need the money to build churches ....or poorhouses.

Yes it is funded by $5 of the $7 medical fee . Ithat was in my post above. Poor people contributing for the worlds best medical research fund.

Hockey was stuck on this " imagine if an Australian developed a cure for dementia or cancer." Looking for prestige?.
Where are they going to get all these medical researchers from.? IF it is to be the worlds best research centre, won't there be researchers from oseas wanting to work there? Might be an American researching in Australia that develops a cure for a terminal disease.

Re: THE BUDGET THREAD

Chronically ill may still have to pay the first 10 $7 fees? The Govt seem determined to slug everyone up to $70 p.a each.

Maybe they will let the terminally ill off.

I don't know why the cant give low income people at least 5 free Dr visits p.a.

Re: THE BUDGET THREAD

The arrangement will be voluntary for GPs – who will be free to waive the charges if they wish.

Re: THE BUDGET THREAD

Thanks punch. I wasn't suggesting your info was incorrect.
More ... not like the Govt to forgo the $7 for anyone.

From your link.. The $7 charge starts being charged in July 2015

We have a new bulk bill clinic opening here soon, which is good . Will be able to get some free visits in before July 2015.,
