Thats  you opinion , it's not mine   ........ They lost countless appeals, the refused to leave Au, so the DHS ( Au gov ) took the appropriate action    ........  Nothing stupid about that at all

If he was paying tax, he was a taxpayer. That's a fact, not an opinion.

And if the reason he has no money is  because the Government prevented him from working, that is also a fact, not an opinion.

More than likely it was one or more immigration lawyers that coached the family hoping to fool the authorities, and if need be prolong deportation, and manipulate the system to their advantage.
More than likely the decision to have children was part of the agenda.

The media then gets involved, beats up the story, often being more of fiction than fact.
It was claimed that the family had not been truthful in visa applications and evidence suggested they came to Australia as economic refugees which do not meet the requirements.

I have no misgivings of allowing genuine refugees into this country (with limitations).

If he was working, he had the opportunity to put money away for his legal defence    ..... that also is another fact

So where is the money he had earned/saved for his defence?

So the family decided on this avenue many years ago?

Get real.

Do you understand what legal representation costs? Far more than an average wage earner can afford.

I'm fairly sure he wasn't making much more than enough to live on. Several hundreds of thousands of dollars probably weren't available. Do you have that available if you fall foul of the law? I don't care how law abiding you are, there is always something (or someone) that can trip you up, regardless of your innonence. Normally criminal prosecutions don't result in costs being awarded.

So if you're falsely accused of something criminal, you don't get your legal fees back, even if you are proven innocent.

Yet another instance of people pontificating on matters they have no idea about.

I think Australia is the only country during this pandemic that would persist in making an immigartion case against one innocuous family , the last behind the wire on the island , who has probably more community support and goodwill where they had been residing than many citizens
