Victoria's Liberal Government is facing a new crisis, with controversial Frankston MP Geoff Shaw announcing he has quit the party, erasing Premier Ted Baillieu's one-seat majority.
Mr Shaw has been under fire for misusing his taxpayer-funded car to help run his hardware business.
There are reports he will run as an independent.
His move means Mr Baillieu is now presiding over a minority government.
Does this mean an early election?
Last year ABC election analyst Antony Green looked at whether Geoff Shaw could bring down the curtain on the Baillieu Government. Read his blog piece here.
Mr Baillieu is continuing to come under fire over his handling of the secret tape recordings involving his chief of staff.

".......yes, they could go back to the old arrangement where jeff shuts the schools and ted sells them...."
"Brumby and Bracks Labor governments slashed the number of primary and secondary schools by 8 per cent during their 11 years in office."
Sept 2012: "AEU state president Mary Bluett told the packed stadium that an estimated 400 public schools had closed" "estimated", A little on the high side perhaps?
ABS
"Over the past 10 years the number of schools in Australia has decreased by 132, from 9,600 in 2000 to 9,468 in 2010........Victoria had the largest overall decrease in school numbers during this period, down 73 schools." ,
"In 2011, there were 9,435"
".... if a primary and a secondary school amalgamate, the two schools become one and would be reported as a (single) combined school...."
It would appear that research and mathematics are not exactly favourite subjects of those who would wish to persuade us they know what they are talking about.

John i mentioned Kennett using Teds real estate firm to sell off state assets merely to try and harness any underlying resentment that may still exist 😛
anyway, what do you think of a Liberal Premier being 'knifed by the faceless men of the liberal party' ? 🙂 Mr abbott was asked a question twice at his press conference today regarding his role in Teds knifing.. he evaded the question twice. so there is no doubt he had a hand in Teds knifing. Does this destroy larry pickerings credibility ? no new cartoons have emerged in relation to this most recent in a long tradition of political assassinations .
maybe NW can assist ?

and it definitely caused problems down the track, 'kennetts school sell off'' quite apart from the windfalls to favoured friends ( one who may be regretting it now). http://www.theage.com.au/national/education/straining-at-the-seams-20110715-1hhq7.html

it certainly puts a dampener on that particular line of attack for the opposition leader 🙂
