While cutting the grants that take artists to the Venice Biennale, the Minister travelled in style to open the new Australian pavilion.
News Corp reports that Australian embassy officials booked a luxury water taxi costing more than $5000 to take Attorney-General George Brandis around the canals of Venice during a trip to open a visual arts exhibition in May, it's been reported.
But Senator Brandis' office said the first he knew of the water taxi was when Australia's ambassador to Italy and former South Australian Labor premier Mike Rann turned up in the boat, with his wife, to pick him up.
The 12-hour water limo ride was commissioned by Australia's embassy in Rome, according to documents obtained under Freedom of Information.
It said it was the only boat left for hire in the entire archipelago.
The water taxi fee of more than $5000 was paid out by the attorney-general's office after being booked by the embassy.
Many of the Australian artists who exhibited at Venice were funded through Australia Council grants, which may not be available for the 2017 Biennale. The Government has withdrawn $105 million from the Australia Council to fund the National Program for Excellence in the Arts (NPEA), which will not make grants for projects by individuals.
2015 was Australia's biggest year ever at Venice with the opening of the new Australian pavillion, a disproportionate seven Australian artists among the 136 artists in the โofficial exhibition, โand a further six venues hosting the work of Australian artists, including more than โ30 Aboriginal artists.
Another one at the trough

Thanks for the link youcan. What a dismal dismal creep is all I can say. Talk about jobs for the boys, and the girls.
It's just sickening.

Tenteeny, there was a pic of him on the catwalk with a model on Twitter ๐ I can't find it there now. It must have been taken down.
I love that ad with the cleaner.

So far we have seen politicians of all stripes and colours misusing their entitlements legitimate expense accounts
And yet . . . . and yet . . . . we actually continue to vote for these people?
We only have one vote per person. It's a wasted vote if we vote for people who waste our confidence in them and abuse our trust in them.
Short of armed revolt, it's all we can do . . . don't vote for people who cynically exploit their position for personal gain, when they should be working for the public good.
If we vote for any of them, knowing what they do and what they have done, then we are also a part of the problem.
Please don't be a part of the problem. Be a part of the solution. Vote 'none of the above'.

Watch Talking Pictures on ABC in about half an hour. Apparently Brandis and his clothing will be featured.
