Gonski school funding: NSW Government plans to fight changes to deal

Updated 22 minutes ago

The New South Wales Government says it will fight any changes to the "Gonski" school funding agreement it struck with federal Labor before the election.

New federal Education Minister Christopher Pyne has said the Coalition cannot go ahead with the "Gonski" funding arrangements and will go back to the "drawing board".

He insists the total amount of money allocated to schools funding will not change, but the way in which it is delivered is now uncertain because final deals had not been signed with some states.

But his NSW counterpart Adrian Piccoli says it has a "binding agreement" that must be honoured.

"NSW expects the Commonwealth to fulfil its obligations under this agreement," he said in a statement.

"NSW will not agree to returning to the broken SES funding model. The new funding model has secured additional resources for classrooms across NSW, with the majority going to schools in most need."

Re: The Gonski in doubt ...back to the drawing board ?

Is anyone other than you calling a pre election promise made by a party standing for election in a federal election a charity or a gift ?

.

improving education and honouring promises= a 'charity' ,'a gift' ?

Sad that you see it that way

It shows little respect for the meaning and responsibility of  our 'Government' and Australia's people as well

What's sadder is the Labour supporters here who just can't accept the fact their party lost the election.

Everything Lib=bad, everything Labour=misunderstood/not relevant/over.

And that respect thing. The people voted their choice.

You going to change it again? Seriously, stop and think before you hit post! You'd have a lower post count and everyone else might actually be able to follow what your meaning is.

The Liberals (under Abbott) will not implement the most crucial aspects of this review. Abbott has already made that perfectly clear.

According to Abbott he has no intention of putting in place the key elements of the Gonski report.

Was all that on your pre-election info?

was what on the pre election info? That it is the States which are responsible for Education?

(psst - that's in the Constitution - a public accessable document, available on the internet and a Library somewhere near you)

Personally, I gave up believing/hoping 10 years ago that any Gov would provide either adequate eduacation or healthcare.

Lie they did. meep the link to poddo's thread merely demonstrates how accurate people can be Smiley Happy all of that has come to pass and the minister Lied barefaced pre-election.

there's other prophetic material in some of those old threads, MM has had a good sift i'd say.
