Taliban threatens Nobel laureate Malala 

A POWERFUL breakaway faction of the Pakistani Taliban threatened teenage education activist Malala Yousafzai with "sharp and shiny knives", hours after she was declared joint winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.

JAMAAT ul Ahrar, which in August separated from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) also known as the Pakistani Taliban - posted its response to the win on Twitter late Saturday.

"Characters like Malala should know that we are not deterred by propaganda of [non-believers]. We have prepared sharp and shiny knives for the enemy of Islam," tweeted spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan.
 
"Malala speaks so much against guns and armed conflicts. Does she not know that the founder of her recent Nobel award was the inventor of explosives," the spokesman said.
 
Malala, a 17-year-old education activist, survived a gunshot wound to the head by a Taliban gunman in 2012.
 
The mainstream TTP, an umbrella organisation of over a dozen groups, has not commented on Malala's accolade.
 
Malala has received praise in Pakistan for becoming the youngest-ever Nobel Peace laureate, with all major newspapers running front page stories on her achievement.

The only logical answer I can think of to that question is that it has got alot to do with the portrayal of Muslims and Arabs and anything Islamic in the mainstream media.  In Hollywood movies the Arab character is always a baddie check out the documantary called "Real Bad Arabs" (How Hollywoood vilifies people)

In the Newspapaers and prime time news and current affairs programs (especially since the war on terror began back in 2003) there are different headlines almost everyday about this Muslim terrorist and that Islamic extremist group.  Even if there are only vague images or heresay evidence to back up the vilification or accusations of whatever crime they have been "purported" to have committed.  I think thats all that the general public needs to be convinced that if it's a Muslim then they must be bad and they must also be a terrorist.  And so because alot of people only watch telly for their news fill daily and they dont ever scrutinize or compare the news thay have seen on the telly with any other news sources they have a kind of blind faith in their favourite news program.  

And I guess what alot of people dont see or dont want to see, is that, imo (this is all jmo FTR)  prime time news and current affairs programs are more about entertainment than reporting actual news.  There is always a little bit of actual news thrown in, but it's about ratings not keeping the general public informed...

And I also find it apalling, particularly given the political climate, that the ebay mods are allowing the boards to be continually spammed with the same racist anti muslim messages.

Sadly for many people, boards like these and the Murdoch versions are the only exposure they get to muslim culture.

Kilroy it's not that we cant bring ourselves to agree with ANYTHING Nero says - just that we cant agree with a lot of the inferences she draws and conections she makes.

Most of us have already agreed with Nero, in this and other threads, that we DO NOT support ISIS and find their murderous rampage revolting and terrifying.

If you read the title of this thread you will see that  it does not simply condemn ISIS (which we all do) but suggests that everyone who follows Islam is cast in the same mould  as those who support ISIS  (which is patently absurd)

i think i know where that idea came from.

on a recent thread about an interview with

Wassim Doureihi - a member of the

australian branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir - where

he was asked if he agreed with isil's barbaric

tactics and he refused to condemn them -

some posters said they understood his position.

even suggested it was the interviewer's fault or

suggesting there have been other atrocities -

so why don't we focus on them as well.

i'm sure it is possible to actually condemn isil's

tactics without suggesting all the other atrocities are

not important.

Wassim Doureihi was given another opportunity

to answer similar questions on another program

a few days later where he also refused to address

the issue despite of that interviewer giving him more

time to spread the message he believes should

be the real focus.

so if someone suggested  they could understand

Doureihi's position where he refused to condemn

the barbaric tactics of isil -  surely they could expect

a reaction.
