The Seniors Thread :-)

"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 ๐Ÿ™‚

But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul.  We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.

The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there.  If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.

The  belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad.  Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people.  Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.

Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.

What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.

Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later.  We can talk about that too.

Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.

The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...

So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here ๐Ÿ™‚

So, onward and upward.  Let's go...."

Good morning all ๐Ÿ™‚

Well it was 0หš down here at 5.30 this morning... This is ridiculous!

As for hair washing JV... the choices are overwhelming and now I have found one that suits I won't change.. except now I have I bet they take it off the market ๐Ÿ˜ž

Lovely to have head massages Gil, glad you enjoyed them.

My phone trouble is continual and now they are not contacting me!

Mind you I have set the ombudsman on to them and am also demanding money back from them...

No phone at all unless I unplug the modem and then trouble getting back on line.

Give me the old days :_|

I think the singer is referring to his niece/nephew. He married one of the little girls, and his brother married her sister. Just a guess.

I wondered about that cyclonic... then thought about it again... is it a question of the sisters being vastly different ages?   One a lot younger than the other... same with the brothers?

Hmmm... sigh, I always find it hard to work out relationships.

I suppose people have been wondering this ever since the song was first written... I wonder if even the writer knew? ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually it could be his nephew he's singing to as the first line says  2 Little girls in blue, lad...

So if the lad's his nephew it would make sense

Now THAT makes sense bright.ton.  Yes 'lad' could be his nephew and he's telling the child of the family history.

Of course!  Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

Oh bother!  I don't think that does work...

2 little girls in blue lad, 2 little girls in blue

They were sisters we were brothers and learned to love them true,

But one little girl in blue lad, she won my father's heart,

Became my mother I married the other

But now we've drifted apart.

One little girl became his mother... I have to think, who was his father?  not one of the two boys?

I like that 'lad' is who the song is being sung to but.....

Maybe it just a nonsense song to keep us all guessing :^O

Darkie I think the 3rd and 4th line is ...won YOUR father's heart, became YOUR mother...

so then it could be his nephew he's singing to couldn't it???? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

Arvo Seniors--still confused by that relationship poser.

Was adopted at 4 years old -but knew both families.

My legal brother was courting my blood sister

and they married.

Sometimes when young i would refer to them

as -sister and brother in law -or brother and sister in law.

Confused school teachers and other people.

Myself included....................Richo.
