The Shroud of Turin

I am part way through reading a fiction book featuring The Shroud, and it has sparked my curiosity.

What do you know?

What do you think?

Me? I want to believe that it is real, but I'm not convinced one way or the other just yet, but I am interested in discussing it with anyone else interested in doing so.

 For something of such historical significance to truly exist would be amazing.

The Shroud of Turin

"Italian researchers at the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development say they believe the image was created by an ultraviolet “flash of light.”

Well that would obviously be "correct" coming from:
"The agency undertakes research in areas which will help to develop and enhance Italian competitiveness and employment, while protecting the environment"

I prefer something you can get your teeth into when it comes to seeing jesus lurking!

The Shroud of Turin

I read once, years ago, that the Shroud isn't a "fake" but it's not Jesus. A cloth was wrapped around a, possibly still breathing, Knights Templar Grand Master called de Molay who had been crucified in Europe as a form of ironic punishment. The incredible heat and sweat from the man's body caused the imprint.

DEVELOPMENT OF APPLICATIONS OF RADIATIONS

ENEA carries on research activities by:

implementing technologies for the application of ionizing and non ionizing radiations;

developing particles accelerators, systems, micro-components and nanostructures for optoectronics and photonics;

taking care of mathematical modeling, the physical phenomena upon which the technological development foreseen relies.

The activities involve both innovation and technology transfer, including advanced services for energy and sustainable economic development as well.

The main topics of research activities can be summarized as follows:

Systems for the generation of ionizing and non ionizing electromagnetic radiation, including tunable laser sources, free electron lasers (FEL) in the THz frequency range, soft X Rays sources from FEL and plasma, with relevant applications to imaging, anti-counterfeiting, Environment and Cultural heritage diagnostics, Security

.Particles (protons, electrons) accelerators for industrial and medical applications, for FELs development.

Advanced mathematical methods for studying problems relevant to classic and quantum optics, transport of charged particles beams, modelling of complex systems, including the biological ones.

Optical and spectroscopic systems for diagnostic and metrological applications (lidar systems) aimed at in situ and remote characterization of the Environment and of Cultural Heritage, and at Security and Health; miniaturized system for application on the territory, also on Earth and other planet’s hostile environments; imaging systems for in situ applications in relevant applied fields, also taking care of data elaboration, analysis and integration in multisensorial frames.

Micro-components (innovative detectors of ionizing radiations based on broad-band light-emitting dielectric films, periodical gratings in fibre optics) and nanostructures (nanowires, nanopowders, nanotubes, ultrathin films) for optoelectronics and nano-bio-photonics. Their applications range from scientific (high energy physics, aerospace, bio-medical imaging diagnostics) to industrial (transport, infrastructures, seismic prevention) fields; they are also suitable for specific use in energy production systems, including nuclear plants.

As opposed to the person who saw it as a good investment 😄

Crikey, the sample didn't make me want to buy it....but it was interesting at least. A bit gruesome for my reading taste but I might revisit it later.

It's really boring too - as I said earlier, all the good bits that the critics raved about must be in the prt I haven't read yet

For others - why did this have to become a religiopus debate? Whatever this is, it is a HUGE histoical  artefact = it appers that there are a few of us interested. So is it possib;e to leave out the religious slurs? Some of us are inyerested from a scientific/academic view, and those interested from a religious view don't need to be condemned.

Not everyone melts their cheese between their butt cheeks/ Buy a griller - it's not as messy -  now would you mind allowing those of us who want to be sensible to do so?

I heard you! lol,  sorry it was so boring. :^O hopefully the factual stuff is actually factual.

Wesselow's book is a bit too in depth for me but I might buy it anyway.....

Historically is it is amazing, regardless of who it is....

Have you watched his video in full?  If not, I think you should before you get the book.
