Most here regard me as a hard line capitalist. To some extent I probably am, and agree with you that hard work and paying your own way in life has a lot of merit.
But this must be tempered with a bit of understanding and compassion for people who for one reason or another are not able to participate in paid employment. Sure there are a few bludgers and your lefty mate, mentioned in your post is probably one of them, but there are a lot of others who would desperately like a job and would be willing to work hard, but either cant find suitable employment or cant work for health reasons.
With a rapidly changing employment market due to the introduction of technology, many traditional blue collar jobs are no longer available. This has been tempered to some extent by the rise in hospitality jobs, but employers only want pretty, young things for hospitality.
There are also plenty of people with very genuine physical or mental health problems who cant participate in paid employment. The previous Labor government extensively tightened the criteria for participants claiming the DSP. They probably have the balance about right for this at the moment with genuine cases being accepted without fuss and those "trying it on" being rejected and forced onto Newstart. But if someone has a medical condition preventing them from working, shouldn't society make sure they have food and a roof over their head. If you don't have the social compassion, think of it as an insurance policy. You never know when you will have an accident or contact a medical condition that prevents you from working. The social safety net of the DSP and the NDIS is just personal insurance for us all..

i disagree with you on many things
but i dont think ive ever said you have no right to have your views or demanded you tell everyone everything about yourself
everything i know about you has been gained by you freely telling us here.
even though i disagree with you on some things, not all.
i think your an ok guy
if i was a drinking man id be happy to have a beer with you and chat about life.
unlike mr mussilino who has no redeaming features
its his way or the highway
borderline neurotic
demands to know what others do with their lives (i suspect so he can have amunition for an attack)
not that that stops him, he attacks anyone not agreeing with him with foaming at the mouth!
he makes assumptions about everyone he meets here.
what they do and who they are.
if there was a prize for being an 1st class a**ole hed win hands down.
hes on my 'ignore' list

Thanks Dave and the sentiments are mutual. There's a lot of personal stuff I don't mention on the forums which probably play into the socialist side of my right wing views. You're only getting part of the picture.

What a silly thing to say. As far as I know we have never met, we know nothing about each other apart from what we post in this forum and in none of my posts have I ever alluded to your personal life - yet for some reason you seem really determined to pursue a personal vendetta against me.
