The end of the checkout signals a dire future for those without the right skills
can only wonder who will shop in the supermarket of the future when no one has a job?

A lot of Caltexes have Pay at Pump. But they are usually not working. I dunno if it's a tech thing or that nobody ever uses it anyway. I've never seen anybody trying it.

From what I've seen,I think the pay at the pump is for late night and middle of the night purchases, so there's no runners.

We do our weekly shop here: https://bunburyfarmersmarket.com.au/ It's not a farmers market in the traditional sense, but it's locally owned and most of the fresh produce is sourced locally. They don't have s/s checkouts, so I unload the trolley and Mr Elephant bags the the items once theyve been scanned. We can get pretty much everything we need there and for the few things we get from Coles or Woolies we do use the s/s checkout.
