The gender card again...

Sorry to interrupt your no politics idea  but I still find the subject important and want to rant... 

How dare Gillard make abortion an election issue... There is no way that is acceptable and to even suggest that the Coalition will remove your right to one is scare mongering to the max. 

In this modern day time it is incredibly important that we don't use these topics to inflame a false war. 

Even if a person in any party did not like the idea of abortion there is no way that they would get the support to make it illegal. Or limit your access to one... or even make you feel bad for having one. 

So if Gillard wants to launch a campaign called "Labor Women for Gillard" then fine... but don't pull out the gender card and make something out of nothing.. 

And personally I find it sexist to have a women's only group calling for women to support Gillard. 

I have two sons and I also want their future to be positive and not forgotten but it seems that this PM only want to think of the future of women.

imo she should stop trying to please the types who harp on about our sad state of affairs,our age of entitlement ,our bludgers,our no hoper single Mums, The cost of a coffee for the NDIS, improving our National school system, our budget deficit blah blah blah 

yes I think she has been trying to please people who can't be please .

That is a lot of her problem, instead of trying to please people to get their votes she should be running the country along with the elected government of the day.

The day Gillard made her misogyny  speech against Tony Abbott legislation was being passed to put tens of thousands of women with children below the poverty line. 

If Gillard really did care about the fate of women and treating them with respect then she would not have done that too them.

I'm sure you know that this legislation was designed to try to break the cycle of welfare dependancy.  In the long term, we will all see that children are being raised by good role models.

Howard introduced the skeleton of the legislation... BUT there was one huge distinction... 

If you were on the payment you could stay on it... however once you got a job, moved in with a partner or anything else that made you lose the payment you could not get back on it. When you youngest started school you were expected to look for a job.... 

He gave you a chance to get on your feet before you were no longer eligible. 

I know that for a fact because I was called in for a Centrelink interview when the payment changed. Everyone was warned about what the changes meant.

At what age of the youngest child do single mothers have their benefit cut? Is it 8 years of age? If so surely in 8 years, training etc could have been completed for re-entry to the work force.

Why Abbott needs more women at the top

If Tony Abbott is elected prime minister on September 14 the number of women at the Cabinet table will drop by 50 per cent.

Australia will go from having one of the highest representations of women in government in the democratic world to a very ordinary presence when compared with similar countries.

All up, women are just 19 per cent of the Abbott team, whereas the Gillard government comprises 33 per cent women.

There are four women now in the Cabinet (Penny Wong, Jenny Macklin, Tanya Plibersek and Gillard herself). Abbott's will have just two: Julie Bishop and Sophie Mirabella.

The figures for the rest of Abbott's leadership are equally abysmal. Just four of his 12-strong shadow ministry are women, as are a mere three of his 15 parliamentary secretaries.

By contrast, apart from 20 per cent of Gillard's cabinet being female, an impressive 60 per cent of the 10 outer ministers are women, as are 33 per cent of the 12 parliamentary secretaries.
