Just standing at the polling booth entrance and listening to how many people just voted bcause it is mandatory. Many had no idea whom to vote for.

Labor didn't do this. Losing trust and confidence in politicians started in the 60s, and only because at that time the population was being dragged out of its stupor and ignorance (we thought that a grandfatherly PM would look after us) by burgeoning media and the realisation that we could have a say (eg Vietnam war protests) in our future and not leave it to the suits.
