Dead babies found in Brazil hospital

The bodies of 40 newborn babies and fetuses have been found abandoned in a Brazilian hospital morgue, some forgotten for years, authorities say.

Some of the small corpses had been mouldering in a morgue refrigerator for as long as five years at the city-administered Pedro Ernesto Hospital in Rio de Janeiro.

Officials also found a number of body parts which prosecutors said were probably left over from emergency amputations.

How does a parent just abandon their babies?

The case came to light after prosecutors were asked by authorities to investigate the whereabouts of one infant who it was later determined was delivered stillborn to a crack-addicted mother.

One clue there................. plus, no money for a burial, single parent, secret birth, ill health etc

Perhaps the mothers didn't just abandon them. They could have been told the bodies were cremated or buried by the hospital, much like they used to be here.

Don't forget that each of these babies had a father. Where was Dad?

When we went to pick up my Mums ashes from the Crematorium they had a whole shelf of ppls ashes stacked in their containers, that had never been picked up. That made us sad too.

You just don't know ppls circumstances.

To be fair, some of the fathers may not have known they were even fathers, but out of forty odd babies, you would think some of them did though. But the mums would have all known.

The article did say that the hospital was known for high risk births, so maybe some of the mums died during childbirth.

Its just beyong my comprehension how anyone, regardless of the circumstances could just walk away and forget their baby. Just leave them there, alone and abandoned.

But it even goes deeper than that, some of those babies were there for 5 years! What, the hospital admin didn't notice??? Didn't notice their fridges were gettin' a bit full?

Not even the authorities did anything. Not even they gave this little souls the courtesy of a respectful finality.

In five years they didn't notice their fridges were getting a bit full?
