bob what will it take for you to just lay off those who have faith?

they are not hurting you, let them believe in god without having to defend their beliefs to non believers.

I am an atheist and I agree with you 100%...let people believe what they want ot believe.

It really is nobodies business but theirs...they should not have to justify their belief in a supreme being anymore than I have to justify my non-belief.

Live and let live.

for the record I am an athiest too, despite being raised catholic.

As was I...and a lot of my friends were raised catholic too but are no longer practising.

I think people should be allowed to  believe anything they want to believe too unless it causes harm to others.

I think if I had been raised a Catholic, I would be an atheist now too.

I was raised / married in Church of England.

Why is it that I need faith? Faith by definition is believing something without or contrary to the evidence.

Exactly! That's why you need faith.

You have faith in what the xxxologists tell you about evolution without any evidence. Just because in one layer of rock there is one animal (A) and in the next (more recent) layer there is another animal (B) - the assumption is that one animal evolved into the other???  Why can't animal B just be a later, more sophisticated creation???

If homo sapiens, for example, was really  a new and more sophisticated creation of an infinitely intelligent Creator then surely that species would  not have such a serious design fault as the human spine. You have mentioned that a few times ele - please explain just what is wrong with the human spine and how it was designed for a quad. Of course there's another way to look at it, maybe there WILL be a later, more sophisticated creation?

And the finding of different animals in different rock strata is only part of the evidence, it does not, of itself, prove that any one one species  evolved into any other  species - and no scientist has ever suggested that it did. It certainly doesn't. So, what other evidence is there that proves evolution? Please don't just say biology  etc, do you have a link that I can read?

Something that one layer - the The K-T boundary -  does show, however, is that around 65 million years ago a catastrophic  - most likely a massive asteroid -  resulted in the extinction of  about 70% of life on Earth - including the dinosaurs. I don't know for certain, but, I have no argument with that.

i was always in trouble for questioning it - i was told i just had to accept what i was taught was right.
when I became old enough to not care if I was in trouble or not I declared myself a non believer.

when my brother's now mother-in-law, who already had 7 children at the time, was pushed down the stairs for daring to ask the priest if she could use contraceptives, I started to wonder about all the priests etc.

I was taught to question everything about the Catholic Church, never once was shut down
Local priest suggested I explore other Religions, so I did, from age 16 to 20yo.
I returned to the Church on my terms.

I totally agree pepe.  At the same time I, for one,  am a person who cant get enough of religious, political, philosophical debate/discussion.  I dont always have time to post my thoughts on certain subjects but I really admire bob for posing the questions and initiating these types of discussions. They are thought provoking if nothing else.  I rarely agree (with bob) but thats what makes the thread interesting, the spectrum of opinions that flow throughout the discussion 🙂

These are deep concepts that not even the supposed "best" brains in the business have a definitive answer for.

Plus I think it's healthy for people to defend their beliefs.  And research the claims people make.  I love it how conspiracy theorists like David Icke always say "Oh dont take my word for it, you can research this stuff for yourself"" imo he says this because he knows that nobody will ever really go off and research the claims he makes.  (I know that some have made vids debunking his theories) but the average person doesn't really have time to spend hundreds of hours wading through all the garbage to find something that can be properly verified)

NB After very early investigations, I found that CofE was not much better than the RC- as I have said many times, they are both more interested in their traditions than Bible truths.

I just saw another thread title and it is just the words I should have used along with "Church Traditions" - "Pomp and Pagentry" - to me that just about sums up what the mainstream churches are all about.

One example I can think of, you see the Priests waving this thing (sorry I don't know what it's called) - like an incents burner - I saw an explantion of that once on TV so it must be right - originally used to take away the smell of all the parishioners who came to church without a bath - lol. Now it has become part of church tradition. {please correct me if that definition is wrong}
