Are We Descending Into Barbarism?
An Australian socialist group has withdrawn newspapers depicting Tony Abbott getting his throat cut by a straight razor.
The grisly Red Flag cover, which was accompanied by the headline "One cut we'd like to see, attracted more than 200 comments – most of them negative – on publisher The Socialist Alternative's Facebook page overnight.
"Oh ... not cool. I'm no fan of the LNP — policies, parties, associates or leader — but this seems unnecessarily violent," one post read.
Another said: "dreadful picture. DO NOT CONDONE violence to anyone. Even Abbott. You LOST me off this page and as a supporter."
The group released a statement this morning defending the Michael Callaghan-inspired cover, but said "legal concerns" meant they would be withdrawing it all the same.

How long before we become like the US and the Middle East where democratically elected leaders are deposed and/or assassinated?

Fat chance of that.
Where was the outrage when the beheading pics of Gillard were posted? Oh that's right they were cheering from the sidelines and laughing.

yes it beggars belief

i don't see anyone defending it. I see everyone saying it's been done to most politicians on both sides of the fence and it's distasteful all round
personaly I wouldn't even know about them unless they're posted on here, I don't go round looking for that stuff or reading it

i was a bit shocked by the some of the stuff posted on here about JG from the gutter press, but now maybe I've become a bit hardened to it

I never saw such a graphic.
I went and googled to see if I could find anything like it but came up with this disgusting youtube clip of GWAR instead:
Not for the fainthearted.
How is this sort of concert even legal?
Notice the cheering of the spectators. What animals. Animals is too nice a word, actually. Beasts is more apt.

It concerns me that people could be passing on the idea of "I didnt like what they did, but I'll do it back to them" to their children. I try and teach my kids the opposite. I hate to think that this kind of thing not only becomes commonplace but gets worse with each change of goverment just because "they did it to us"

no idea Punch. I've only seen it posted here and it started with posting stuff about JG as far as I know. I don't agree with any of it as I've already said. I haven't even clicked the link, I don't really want to know about it,

Sorry deb, my post was directed at you in particular. I looked at the facebook page that the article linked to and I just find all of it a bit sick. Every insult is justifyied by "they did it to Gillard" which is an attitude that really disturbs me.
There was even a photo of a toddler holding up a f**k Abbott sign, disturbing!

was directed at me?? lol
.
i guess a precedent was set when they wrote sickening stuff about JG and some people thought it acceptable, even funny i remember many people on here displaying it proudly and laughing
there is a lot of anger at TA withing the community over all his broken promises and perhaps some think if it was acceptable for JG then its acceptable now.
for me, I'll say again I find all gutter press distasteful and I don't read it.

and you would be even more disturbed if you went looking for anti left/Gillard/ or anything considered slightly progressive stuff online, a while ago I tried to find a certain quote online and came across some truly disgusting right wing sites that I hadn't had the misfortune to see before. Did I come to cs and cut and paste all their vileness, no - I simply had a wash.
