The latest arrival of two vessels carrying 157 people takes the total number of illegal boats that have arrived on Labor’s watch past 700.
Over 42,000 people have arrived on 701 boats since the Rudd-Gillard Government dismantled the Howard Government’s border protection regime.
Labor’s decision to dismantle the Howard Government’s policies has put our country’s security at risk.
It has cost hundreds of lives lost at sea and resulted in thousands of people entering our communities without rigorous security checks.
Every illegal boat arrival cost Australians $12.8 million (on average) – and that’s money which could otherwise go to fund hospitals, roads and help repay debt.
It has seen border protection cost blowouts of more than $10 billion for a system that does not work – that’s money which could otherwise fund hospitals, roads and help repay debt.
Labor’s mismanagement has also included the detention of a convicted jihadist terrorist in low security family accommodation at Inverbrackie in South Australia.
This jihadist was a member of the terrorist organisation Egyptian Islamic Jihad, which merged with al Qaeda in 2001, many years before his arrival by boat.
With an average of 100 people now arriving every day, Australia cannot afford three more years of Labor failure.

No one has offered a reply as to how they would handle a house invadrer who demanded food ,shelter, entertainment welfare and cash either.
I aint holding my breath for that answer 🙂
By the way it is deemed by some that border invasion and house invation are not similar
i'd say thats because theres no comparison. its a silly analogy.
looks like the libbies have no answer. , its a con and the boats will keep coming.. oh dear tone, what can you do ?

As the election draws nearer, I expect there'll be a lot more focus on the nitty gritty of policies. I hope there are some.
poddster, do you have any solutions re: the boat arrivals?

Stop the illegals and their boats
Get the sugar off the table
close the borders - Australia is full
I have a friend who worked for 3 months in a detention centre - he said he had to sign a confidentiality agreement not to talk about what he saw or what goes on.
He did say, the average Australian knows nothing about what really goes on and the HUGE amount of money that is spent on these illegals.
And the majority of them are not true refugees, but are here for the easy welfare and support on offer here.

You won't get any indignation from the luvvies re this invasion. They are rubbing their hands with glee hoping it will get worse (could that happen) labor has left a nice big time bomb for Abbott.
LL has been licking his lips for months hoping it becomes bigger by the day, hoping for any solution to fail, not that Labor has made any attempt to really do anything, they have sat on their hands for years, kept their traps shut & washed their hands of all responsibility.
If, for nothing else, this failure of Labor's & the unpicking of a successful policy is their worst most disastrous failure & they are going to be punished for it.

Analysis: 'Illegals' and the erosion of empathy
‘Illegal entries’, 'stop the boats', 'jump the queue'. Why do politicians repeat prejudiced clichés? It keeps empathy at bay, so voters don’t have to think too much, says one expert.
RELATEDGillard will fail asylum boat test: AbbottAbbott in Geraldton to talk asylum seekersIs Tony Abbott wrong to talk of 'illegals'?
Repetition of a simple phrase like 'illegal boats' influences the way you think about a subject even if it's wrong, former political advisor and author Don Watson says.
Politicians from both Labor and the Coalition have referred to asylum seekers as "illegals" before.
Every time “illegal” is used in reference to asylum seekers, refugee advocates, lawyers, immigration experts and academics are quick to dispute it, pointing out that it is legal to seek asylum. The Refugee Council of Australia and the UN also say it’s wrong to use the word “illegal” to describe asylum seekers.
The confusion centres around the interpretation - or misinterpretation - of Article 31 of the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.

Illegal label is legally wrong
On Monday, yet another day during which Australia debated asylum seekers and boat arrivals, Derryn Hinch provided his take on the use of the term "illegal" in relation to the Press Council of Australia's advisory guidelines on the matter:
…terms such as "illegal immigrants" or "illegals" may constitute a breach of the Council’s Standards of Practice on these grounds. The risk of breach can usually be avoided by using a term such as "asylum seekers".
Hinch suggests that the Press Council autocratically prevents journalists from using the term "illegal" to describe boat arrivals.

But the Press Council's guidelines exist because it is legally wrong (see also: inaccurate) to describe boat arrivals as "illegals" and concerns about security are tinged by the paranoia around "terrorism" that usurped rational discussion on asylum seekers.

The so -called successful policy is exactly what we have today, its howard policy.
and yes i do like to see false claims and doubtful solutions de-bunked. the libs have been lying about this for too long and have been found out. as for 'wanting solutions to fail' that is LNP policy.. they deliberately sabotaged attempts to find and introduce tweaks to the current howard system that might make it work now (not in the past ) the mathods of the past will not work so what do you suggest ? nothing ? i thought so 🙂

How would he go speaking to foreign ministers in an unscripted way ? He thinks he can just go over and tell the leaders of foreign Countries how things are ...politely or not we may be in trouble if that is his attitude
on 03-06-2013 11:55 AM
he wasn't polite, he was the only person in the room with his feet on the table 🙂
i wonder if that was a gesture for his xenophobe supporters...
