The latest arrival of two vessels carrying 157 people takes the total number of illegal boats that have arrived on Labor’s watch past 700.
Over 42,000 people have arrived on 701 boats since the Rudd-Gillard Government dismantled the Howard Government’s border protection regime.
Labor’s decision to dismantle the Howard Government’s policies has put our country’s security at risk.
It has cost hundreds of lives lost at sea and resulted in thousands of people entering our communities without rigorous security checks.
Every illegal boat arrival cost Australians $12.8 million (on average) – and that’s money which could otherwise go to fund hospitals, roads and help repay debt.
It has seen border protection cost blowouts of more than $10 billion for a system that does not work – that’s money which could otherwise fund hospitals, roads and help repay debt.
Labor’s mismanagement has also included the detention of a convicted jihadist terrorist in low security family accommodation at Inverbrackie in South Australia.
This jihadist was a member of the terrorist organisation Egyptian Islamic Jihad, which merged with al Qaeda in 2001, many years before his arrival by boat.
With an average of 100 people now arriving every day, Australia cannot afford three more years of Labor failure.

This failure of Gillards & the unravelling of a secure border policy that worked is now being blamed on the left wing civil rights lawyers who infest the labor machine.
But if they begged for a more open border policy, a more kind policy, what is going to be their reaction to another 70 people dead? they don't care as long as they get the millions of $ they have extorted out of the taxpayer.
Shakespeare got it right when he said " the first thing we have to do is kill the lawyers"
I'm sickened by the support luvvies have given this labor party for this policy. If they were true believers ( snort) they should be shouting from the rooftops. What do we get instead?? the gleeful prospect of TA failing to stop this madness. Shame on them.

Acts of murder/drownings & invasion of another country from a base in Indonesia. What shall we call that.

hi sibi
what will happen if the leaky boats are turned around and sent back under the 'proposed" new policy, Do you really think they'll make it all the way back safely?
on 09-06-2013 11:16 AM
shame on those who make it all political...and out the human factor .
wishing and taking pleasure for so much to fail including the NDIS,National School reforms .
It doesn't ring true when those who do that try to make it look as though they care about human lives.

it's proposed to turn back boats " only when safe to do so" ...leaky boats wouldn't be considered by our Navy ..safe/seaworthy .

It's a worldwide trend ...the increase in people seeking asylum by boat.
What makes people do that ?
That's what would need to be 'fixed' in order to stop the boats.
