which is a complete waste of time environmentally speaking. making things look 'tidy' does nothing for the devastating effects of climate change. especially (in terms of qld) when one considers the damage dredging spoil will inflict upon the reef.
'
The authority protecting the Great Barrier Reef believed last year that a proposal to dump 3 million cubic metres of dredge spoils in the marine park area should be refused, new documents show.
In January this year, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) approved the dumping.
Greenpeace's Queensland campaigner, Louise Matthiesson, says the question must be asked - what changed?
"As far as we can see there were no significant changes to the project itself and no circumstances that came to light that would justify them reversing their position," she said.
Three million cubic metres must be dredged as part of the expansion of the Abbot Point coal terminal at Bowen in North Queensland.''

i'm on the Dept of the Environment website and it states the participants will be paid an allowance of between $10.14 and $16.45 per hour so how does that make it half of the minimum wage???
the participants will also be entitled to paid sick leave.

Its clearly just spin meep, that was my point right at the start, they are comparing the pay of a 17yo trainee (I think) with that of a full time adult. Looks to me like they will be paid appropriately and in line with what other trainees earn.......
I guess thats why the focus shifted to insurance....and then to dredging in the Barrier Reef.......

good try, but my focus is on a true environmental outcome. that is not addressed by a 'green army'
i don't care about the low wage, it probably a little better than the dole, but it in no way addresses the true responsibilities of a genuine 'environment minister'' that is my beef. low paid short-term positions do not address the climate or employment needs of the country.

now that i found the info with the actual payment amounts, it has confirmed what you were saying......
and as for the insurance, the participants will be adequately covered from what I understand as well... it's all there, on the dept of environment website.
ok.....so that's that. lol

clearly spin from the liberals, think i will believe the ACTU when it comes to wages, jobs and safety issues. As for climate change, haven't you heard -

I was referring to the Opening Post. (yeah, i'm still on that) The information did not seem right. Got it sorted now so yes, that's that.
I'm also happy with this approach " to combat land degradation, clean up our waterways, provide real and practical solutions to cleaning up riverbanks and creek beds, re-vegetate sand dunes, re-vegetate mangrove habitat and a host of other environmental conservation projects."
so yes.....that's that to that too.

i didn't realise you thought that was a 'real solution' the big problem in case you missed it is carbon. an environment minister who does nothing about carbon is a fraud. It is 'the issue'' the rest is fluff. being pointless without an ETS and funding for renewables.
Remembering that Greg hunt's masters thesis was largely built around an emissions trading scheme its apparent that he's traded his true beliefs for the trappings of power. pathetic weasel that he is.
