A reminder of the debt that Australia has, while Labor can bury their heads and deny it exists the fact remains we have a huge problem with debt and sooner than later the chips will fall, no business, no state and no country can keep operating in the red, eventually those we own the money to will own us. Who will own us?
The state of Qld has debt of $80 billion dollars, Labor are saying they don’t think it’s that bad, Bill Shorten on Australia’s debt, there is no debt crisis, there is a crisis and we are in this situation because of Labor, no one else and the bottom line is Labor can’t fix this problem, their speciality is creating debt not fixing debt.

Of-course, Prince Philip does not fund anything, he has to struggle on measly 1/2 million yearly allowance.  Guess not having to pay rent helps.

Duke of Edinbugh Awards - By 1971 the Award operated in 31 countries; this had increased to 48 countries by 1989 as it spread beyond the boundaries of the Commonwealth. Such rapid expansion led to the formation of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Association in 1988.

There are 47 other countries that haven't felt the need to  give Prince Philip a Knighthood or similar.

His Royal Highness has remained committed to the Award since its inception over 50 years ago. He continues to be involved, particularly in recognising the achievements of Award participants and the adults who support them.

No mention of Phil giving $$/funding there - could get quite exxy funding 48 countries for Duke of Edinburgh awards programmes wouldn't it?

icy - The media are always happy to focus on the dumb things, and the real issues are swept under the carpet, unfortunately most Australians are running with the media at present and all we hear is the down side.

Abbott has been doing/saying 'dumb' things for the past 5 weeks at least (not counting the 12 months prior) ..e.g. . the $20 GP fee back flip....... They aren't 'one off's' they are continual.

The government allowed its least successful proponent to speak on the record about this on Friday. The Prime Minister said: "If you don't want to work on a weekend, fair enough, don't work on a weekend. But if you do want to work on a weekend, and lots of people, particularly students, particularly young people, want to work on a weekend, you want the places to be open to provide jobs."

According to the PM, doctors in hospitals, nurses, policemen, firemen,ambulance staff, disability support workers, supermarket managers, can ALL decide that they don't want to work on weekends anymore. Will students/young people be able to take over their jobs on the weekends?

Students/young people work in retail & hospitality jobs mostly.. casual jobs. Any young person who isn't studying and needs a full-time income, has a hard time getting enough casual hours work to earn enough to cover living costs in these occupations.

Senator Ricky Muir remains open to deregulating university fees after call from Tony Abbott's office

The ABC has sought the thought process of Ricky Muir on deregulating university fees after a call from Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s office.

The sad part about this story is Ricky Muir is flat out stringing a sentence together and he’s making decisions on education.

Muir is still worried about the illegal boat people being held in detention in Darwin, another person who is happy to have illegal boat people walking around in our community, what a pity these elected officials don’t have the brains to listen to what the Australian public want.

The Victorian Motoring Enthusiasts Party senator last year helped vote down the Government's first attempt at changing the way universities are funded
