and the lady on the phone asks if I'm married?
Then proceeds too ask when my OH is home so the consultant can come and give a quote?
How rude!
Apparently I am not capable of standing and watching some dude measure my guttering!

Did you tell them when to come around or tell them you will find someone who doesn't discriminate?

You would be surprised how many women get tradies out for quotes without the OH knowing about it....in a lot of cases it's a waste of the tradies time and time is money.

In a lot of cases they got more than one quote too.
Doesn't mean the wife went behind the husbands back.

Someone is living in the past... the lady that wanted to send someone out for a quote when your OH is home..
Would single women be not allowed to get quotes for guttering, because there will be no man to talk to when the consultant who comes out?
I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a quote without partner knowing about it. If the quote given is too high, don't bother discussing it with partner. If the quote is OK, you have the details about how much it will cost when you discuss it.

tradies expect to waste time or money giving out free quotes for guttering, they mightnt get the job. & i fail to see the difference if the owner waiting at home is a male or female. They would simply ask the owner what colour colorbond you want from their color chart.. if they havent got the colour you want to suit the color of your roof or whatever. they might suggest uncoated metal to paint yourself, which might work out cheaper. (measure up the metres give a quote) Wouldnt most women handle those simple decisions? Its only guttering.

Giving quotes comes with the job.
No one is going to tell someone to come do work on a house without knowing the costs and I think its an important part of selection process- choosing a person you feel comfortable with using.
And yes, I get 3 quotes.
for example: with blinds the quotes varied by up to $800.
Thats $800 I can put towards my guttering.
The flooring companies were the worst. One quoted $1800 dearer. Same product, just different installers. How do they justify the difference?

Yes, ashjoma, very up to date
I had heard they were pushy, but I have called 2 local companies, one failed to show up (TWICE!!) and the other hasnt returned my call.
Looks like business is booming and they dont want my business.
